Twain, Mark: Letters From The Earth, v.1, 19 Feb 2008

Late in his life, particularly after his wife and two of his daughters had died, Mark Twain became increasingly cynical and his humor darkened. Letters From The Earth was written in 1909 a few months before his death but wasn't published until his third daughter died in the 1960's.

You're very welcome. Twain's cynical humor is finest here, I think, though some would say it was simply a sad result of his wife's death and his resulting grief.

Many thanks, Viva. Much appreciated. This is one of the Twain works I've not yet read. Best wishes. Neil

Thanks, VR! I downloaded and started reading this based on Neil's comments in the "Hey!! Let's get some action going! What are we reading?" Thread.

It's a beautifully prepared version, too, Vivaldi. Thanks again. On reading, I realised that I had read the work before -- but that didn't detract at all. I think I might have been so young when I first read it that I didn't appreciate just how unique this piece is.

Goodness, I'm glad you're all enjoying it. It makes me want to pick it up again now.
