Thaw by Welsh author Stephen Bowkett (ISFDB, SFE) is the 3rd novel in his The Wintering trilogy of YA science fiction with adventure fantasy elements (apparently magic-like psionics in addition to the mutant wolf-bonding) set in a protected enclave future world which is frozen over and guarded by an all-encompassing AI, this one seeing the once-escaped human hero, who has accomplished the obligatory life-changing deeds in the outside world, completing the obligatory coming of age by coming full circle back to his home to confront the stifling AI and presumably liberate his original people, free for a limited time courtesy of publisher Endeavour Press' Venture imprint.

This was originally published in 2002 by Orion Children's Books as part of their Dolphin line. We've previously received the 1st & 2nd novels free as well.
