Pre-purchase question... :)

Hi,

In a review I saw online, the Kindle came preconfigured to connect to the owners Amazon account. Presumably, this is set by the account used to buy the Kindle? If my wife buys me one (for Xmas), it will be using her Amazon account, which wouldn't be much good to me. Is there any way to change this?

Cheers,
Leaston

Yes - really easy. You just 'deregister' and then re-register it under your wife's Amazon account details.

There are details about gifting Kindles here:-

http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/help/cust...6580#givingnew

Which appears to indicate that if you mark the Kindle as a gift when you buy it, it won't come pre-registered, so you wouldn't have to de-register and re-register.

or have her contact Amazon CS and explain that it will be a present for the holidays and that it need to be registered under a different account. Perhaps there is a override that customer service can make at the time of the sale or the the unit can be sold without even being tied to a user account. I'm sure that this question has been asked to Amazon before so they probably would be able to assist without any issue.

From reading the original post he doesn't want to register under his wife's account he want to register under his own Amazon account. Although the end result may be the same I just wanted to clear that up. This is really 6 of one or a half dozen of the other. His wife can either purchase without registering or he can de-register. All of the warranty information will be in his wife's name, and her books (if any) will also be on the device, only to be possibly deleted later. De-registering just seem to be inefficient to me as opposed to just registering under his account (IMO)

You get an email when you buy a kindle that says welcome to kindle, if this was a gift click this link and go to "deregister this kindle"

Did you not receive this email?

You may however, want to associate all of your kindles to one account, so that you can share books that you purchase at the amazon bookstore. I do not think you can do that if you have 2 separate amazon accounts.

Keep this in mind.

No I purchased my K3 from a Brick & Mortar store, and when I turned it on I just got the standard Amazon message. I already had a Amazon account anyway, I used that pre-existing account name and it worked just fine.

Not a problem

My sister recently purchased a Kindle 3 as a gift for me. When I got it, it was not registered to her account and I was very easily able to register it to mine. She simply specified that it's a gift during the purchase. It does ask during checkout.
