no pdf with 6.18 / no text in 6.18.1

I had been using 6.18 then downloaded 6.18.1
The converter does not fail, but creates a PDF, but the PDF has blank text with just headers and footers showing.

You could try installing Pandoc, an amazing command line file conversion program – https://pandoc.org/ – which I use for converting .docx to .tex amongst other things. It usually converts ePub to PDF using LaTeX. Assuming you don't have LaTeX installed, it can also convert from ePub to html and then convert that to PDF (all in one command string).
