Google E-books
Google just notified me that Google E-books will be launching in Canada fairly soon. Here's part of what it said: You heard from us a few weeks ago about preparing for the launch of Google eBooks in Canada. We're happy to let you know that you can now proceed with adding Google eBook settings for individual titles in your account.

In one way it is good, but others, not so good. I mean, have you seen the quality of a book scanned by google? Bottom of the barrel.

I still can't find anything useful to do with Google e-Books services...

but the regular books( NY Times best sellers etc...) appear to be just as normal as everybody else's. |

But is it better than not having the book at all? I would say yes. Proofreading the library is probably going to take quite awhile though.

I'm with you - Google Books gives me access to rare books I'd not otherwise be able to read. I can proof them myself as I go along - the errors are rarely so egregious that I can't figure out what the original was. I'm a big girl now. |

So what is this? Are they basically letting people buy all of the scans they did for Google Books?

Hellmark and Anthem - The Google book range is astounding. What library on Earth would, for example, have all the works of Wilfred Scawen Blunt, available as quickly as you can type in the title? It is sometimes challenging to decipher optical scanning glitches, but what is the alternative? It's too trivial to consider. If you're offended by the misread characters, volunteer your time to help clean them up. Right on, Khalleron.

Indeed, in some cases, you cannot actually download a file to use with the reader system of your choice. Rather, you have to use a browser or one of the Google eBook mobile reading apps.
On the other hand, theoretically you can support independent bookstores through your purchase. Wonder how that's working out...my guess is, not so much. |
