It wouldn't surprise me if they did shut down. Many of the major publishers don't have their books for sale at Diesel anymore.

I got an email from them about it. They added at the end that Diesel may be back in a different form sometime in the future, though they didn't give any date when that might be either.

Diesel has an antitrust suit going over agency.
http://www.the-digital-reader.com/20.../#.UzHZMI7D_MI When/if they collect they could be back. BOB has a similar case. Best case would be Nook if they hadn't been so active in their support for the conspiracy. |

It's of course possible, except back then didn't have contracts with each pub just with their distributors and they still were using the same distributors (primarily LightningSource/Ingram). It's my understanding that when Agency came along the stores all had to do contracts with each publisher (even if using a distributor) and the pubs weren't in any kind of hurry to get anything done with the small stores. BoB was missing titles for a long time (don't know if they ever got them all back) and IIRC it was one of the reasons CyberRead gave for closing up shop.

Sad to see another store go under. I used Diesel for the first time about a month ago. Two books and both are safely in my calibre library.

I also suspect that there is some hidden or unusually high cost to running an online ebook store. Something we aren't aware of for all these stores to close. How many ebooks does a site have to sell to cover costs? |

The Adobe Tax is pretty substantial. Some accounts put the annual costs in the US$100-200k range: http://www.the-digital-reader.com/20.../#.UzIDRY7D_MI Last edited by fjtorres; 03-25-2014 at 06:36 PM. |

Although, somehow ebooks.com and ebookmall.com are still in business. I wonder how they manage it. |
