It's the most useful thing on the Kindle. A Kindle isn't worth owning without the free global internet.

Especially when in Europe. The 3G worked like a charm.
I would read on my Kindle at night and then on my Blackberry during the day at work. The 3G allowed these two devices to sync and it was great! |

For me, extremely useful. I live in a rural area and Amazon's 3G is a blessing.

I agree. Super useful, since it I use it at home instead of wifi, because the wifi was a pain in the butt with our router. I sent back the wifi only one and got the 3G one instead and couldn't be happier.

I didn't realize how useful it was until I was on a bus in Mexico.

If I were buying a K3, I would get 3G+SO. It's a good deal. I haven't missed 3G myself (I live in rural area and have only 1X, so wifi I have at home is much better), but as others point out it is a unique value proposition, and if you travel it's nice to have.

I think it is incredibly useful. While I don't web browse on my K3, being able to download a book pretty much any where is great.

When I'm out I use my iPhone. And if I'm out for a longer time, I use my iPad. I almost only use my Kindle at home. But if you are travelling a lot it might be handy because it's free and a Kindle don't need to be charged so often.

I don't need 3G. I have WiFi at home and at work. If I'm traveling about the area, WiFi is readily available at McDonald's, Starbucks, and libraries.
But then again, I generally have no need to download books on the go and rarely open the browser. |

This is very-much a "self-selecting" sample. Those people who find 3G useful probably have a 3G Kindle; those who don't, don't.

I don't really have a use for 3G because I rarely download books and if I need internet I use my iphone. I returned my wifi and got a 3g because of the lower price and because it would be a nice feature if i ever sell/give away/loan my kindle to someone without wifi (like my parents). I doubt i will use the 3G much, if at all. |
