Reporting messages/threads

It would be nice to know that after a thread/message has been reported, it would be nice to know what is happening. Sometimes it looks like the report is being ignored.

I've recently made a report to a thread that's come off topic and needs to be split since the title says it's about Amazon when it's not very much gone away from just being about Amazon. But it seems to be ignored. There's no way to know what's going on.

So it would be nice when a report is read that the person making the report gets told whats what.

In that particular case, a thread title change would make more sense (ie, "Settlement E-mails from Ebook Retailers") which you can discuss with the OP who can request a title change by reporting their own post. In general, no, I don't feel we should get notified when action is or is not taken. Many reports are about poster TOS violations or posts in the wrong forum and how those are handled are either self-evident (deleting, moving, suspending, banning) or the mods have chosen not to act. They don't owe us an explanation when they make that choice and in many cases giving us one would only lead to problems / arguments, not to mention more work for them.

I see what you mean, Jon. Some kind of feedback would be nice, for instance, to make sure that a reported post didn't get "lost". The problem is we receive quite a lot of reported posts every day, for various reasons as CWatkinsNash correctly pointed out, and it's already a lot to deal with as it is. I cannot imagine any efficient way to provide feedback to everyone who reported a post.
