Right, but before I actually try it, what IS this file? Is it something that Entourage provided that will take me ALL the way back, or is it simply the last update.zip that I loaded from the flash drive?
I'm wondering exactly what kind of recovery mode this is that we already have. Trisky |

The default location for update.zip is in /cache/ according to preferences in edge settings on my PE. I wonder how to change that or whether it's necessary.

Newbie help, please !
I am new to this Pocket edge. I was hoping to get Kindle reader for Android to work on this and I see that I need to be able to update to 2.2. I have tried 3 different sources for a ermine file, renamed them to update.zip, put them on usb sticks of 256M and 4GB, done the same with the file on microSD, tried various timings to hold "Menu" and "Rotate" buttons while turning it on and never get anything that says updating and it just boots, normally. The Edge is currently running 1.6. Is there some trick that I am missing?

Check;
1) you have a good downloaded zip file. 2) the USB stick is formatted FAT or FAT32. 3) the file is not update.zip.zip (can easily happen when using windows). One or more of those three have stopped more people updating than anything else. Number three catches more people than it should because the default in windows is ti NOT show the extension so if you name the file update.zip windows will add .zip without telling you. That will never work. |

Thanks but done all that. :(
I am familiar with hidden extensions and was careful to get that right. I also looked at the file using the Edge and it shows it named update.zip. The usb drives are really microSD cards plugged into a thumbdrive adapter and are formatted FAT for the 256mb and FAT32 for the 4GB.
The first couple of downloads were corrupted and wouldn't open. The last couple, did, however so I assume they are good. None of them make the thing do anything but boot up normally. Do you have a known good link where I can get the basic Android 2.2 that will work on this thing and still support the paper display? Again, thanks for any help. |

Installed the v1.01.001 file and got stuck on the Click the Android page. I managed to get into adb and delete the SetupWizard.apk so it would boot, but now all my apps are all hosed up. I had Market and Gmail working under Ermine, I tried to restore using the golden.update.zip, but it won't install. Now what? My tablet still works but it's all hosed up. Market and Gmail don't work all the time. But the worst is that the home button and menu button don't work ethier.

I hate being the person to post these types of questions (I am an IT support specialist), but i am stumped.
I am trying to update to 1.01.001 on my Pocket eDge. I downloaded the file to my USB stick (also tried it on the SD card), renaming it to update.zip. I was able to get the device to the "Updating software... Please do not turn off you enTourage eDGe." screen, but it stays on this page eternally (let it stay there for over an hour). I used the paperclip trick and had the device boot normally, and it boots to the Android Setup wizard, but the setup wizard just keeps force closing. It won't let me past that point. Any suggestions would be great. |

UPGRADED!!!!!
Thanks all. Upgraded to the most recent ermine update, and everything is working fine with the exception of the Market. Loaded my account up via the youtube work around, and Gmail / Contacts / Calendar are up fine, but when I try to access the Market, all I get is "an unknown error has occured. Please try again later". Thoughts?

yes, that is a known error caused by the fact that those apps werent copied over from a phone, something on the phone is required to get around it, if you want to try experimenting you could try to install my pack of of stuff over what you have from the most recent update(at least market, google services framework, and google partner setup), you can see more info on that here: link, I think a combination of the two is what is needed to get market to work, though I haven't tried myself yet...

Summarizing -- Advantages of new firmware
I have been out of the forum for a few weeks, and I find this new breakthrough.
As I cannot read 194 posts now, I have to ask the following for the benefit of all those who have just jumped into this: Could you please (any of you) create a new, separate post, summarizing the alleged advantages of the new firmware? Also, is it there a new firmware for EE? The information I am please asking to get in a clear, summarized way is this: - ADVANTAGES OR IMPROVEMENTS of the new firmware compared to 0.9 Ermine. - Previous bugs which are now fixed with this version (contrasting with the bugs reported for Ermine when it came out). - Side effects or trouble which have been reported by those who tested it. In this way, we can go quickly to the point and make up our minds. The work you have all done is remarkable. Congratulations to all those involved!! |
