Troubleshooting Screensaver covering 3/4 of screen with lines

I've had the Kindle 3 for a few months now with no problems until recently. I flicked the switch to turn it on and instead of the screensaver disappearing, it turns into these crosshatching vertical and horizontal lines. The kindle still seems to function but I can only see the bottom quarter of it with the rest being covered with the lines that look like they form the original screensaver. I've tried refreshing the screen and resetting it many times but the lines still overlay on top of everything. Any solutions?

You have a broken screen. There is glass under the plastic and it has been cracked. Give Amazon a call. They've been pretty good about replaced broken screens and will usually send a new Kindle overnight.

Do you keep your Kindle in a cover?

Sounds like something's broken. Call Customer Service. They are actually helpful and one of the best customer service groups I've ever seen.
