Can't access Caliber server

I'm new and have only been using Calibre for a couple of weeks, but I've got quite a few books already and have signed up for a couple of the news feeds and those arrive just fine each. I tried to access my Calibre library via the server away from home but can't. The server is on - I have the correct IP address, and when I type it in with the suffix :8080 or :80 - my device says the page is unavailable - try later or it may have moved. I don't know much about computers and am a loss as to what to try next. What could I be doing wrong? I have a Velocity Cruz Tablet?

Thanks for all suggestions....

Accessing a calibre server on your home network from outside your home requires many steps beyond starting the calibre server. See this post for some more information.

OK... Would it be better for me to put all of my "books" and news feeds on "drop box" and then access them when I'am away from home?

Can't say which is "better". I wouldn't want to use dropbox as a web server. On the other hand, it would certainly easier than opening up your router, and that might be your deciding factor.
