Or watching them in theaters or on TV with no sense of ownership.

Books are different. We always bought books. We're used to the freedom to lend books and sell them after we've bought them. It's hard not to resent having the suppliers try to take that freedom away from us. I grew up being taught to share things and that always included books. That was in the days before it was possible to share movies.

I'm not sure these are valid logical distinctions but they certainly feel valid and sometimes it's how things feel that matter.

We also borrowed from libraries.

Oh and on videos and music, you could always loan your friend the physical copy without copying lol. Or a former roommate could "borrow" an album and skip off to Kalamazoo Michigan. (Yes, it was a Toto album.)

I'm curious what the reaction will be when I walk by strangers while reading and tell them I'm sorry that I'm reading on a Kindle. Hmmm...maybe it'll get me some free rent.

No, you wouldn't get free rent. They would take your medicare and social security to pay for it. They charge for soft walls.

I think that Apple is completely right.

I don't want anyone getting access to my phone after I die.

Interesting. I, on the other hand, want to make sure that my family DOES have access to all of my stuff after I die. I would be interested to know how many think like me, vs how many think like you.

I really don't understand the "screw the familty , it dies with it with me " attitude
folks who think like that should maybe chew & swallow the sim card on their death bed

please remember , the thread was started to discuss how to passing on your paid for digital content, not your porn selfies

I'm with you on this. Only I'm afraid they would not be particularly interested in my stuff, so it might well be a moot point for me.

Asked and Answered.

*) It varies by country what choices and/or control you have over the material.

*) Some digital content is not yours to determine what becomes of it, regardless of how much you paid for it.
Again, not consistent across legal jurisdictions and rarely clear in the law.

Translation:
Ask your legal estate planner and/or your professional legal adviser.

There is no single, general, answer that applies to any jurisdiction world-wide for all digital materials.
That is the most answer you can get in a general public forum.
