Free (nook/Kindle/Kobo/iTunes) Spycatcher [Award-Nom Espionage Action Thriller]
Spycatcher by British author and real life former MI-6 agent Matthew Dunn (SYKM, Wikipedia) is the 1st in his eponymous espionage action adventure thriller series starring Will Cochrane, the titular globe-trotting CIA/MI-6 operative, this installment featuring the obligatory vs terrorism plot, free courtesy of publisher HarperCollins' William Morrow imprint.
This has been a Finalist for the 2012 Barry Award for Best Thriller, according to SYKM. Currently free @ B&N, Amazon & Kobo & iTunes (none available to Canadians). May also be free @ Google Play, but I can't easily check that from Canada, though I think we should have the same URL as the US, this time at least. If you happen to like this one, it appears that the 2nd-in-series, Sentinel, is discounted to $4.99 in the US. Also, there's a nifty interview with the author with a bit of a spycraft Q&A on the Amazon product page, done by fellow thriller novelist Jeffrey Deaver. And this has been the selected 3rd (non-repeat) free ebook thread of the day. A bit by default, but espionage thrillers are one of those genres where "write what you know" on the author's part makes things seem rather more interesting (as opposed to murder mystery crime thrillers, which IMHO are probably best not written by actual convicted premeditated murderers, but I suppose they've got to make a living somehow once they've done their prison time). And we managed to get an award-nominated one, too, with some nifty behind-the-scenes info! Enjoy! Description Will Cochrane is the CIA's and MI6's most prized asset ... and their deadliest weapon. Since childhood, the only world he has ever known is a clandestine realm of elaborate lies and unholy alliances—where trust is rare, betrayal comes cheap, and a violent death is often the penalty for being outplayed by an opponent. Cochrane has never been outplayed ... so far. Now his controllers have a new game: neutralize one of the world's most wanted terrorists, believed to be a general in the Islamic Revolutionary Guards. Cochrane's unpredictability makes him the one agent capable of catching his adversary off guard, and he believes he has the perfect plan. But on a breakneck race through the capitals of Europe and into America's northeast, the spycatcher will discover that his prey knows the game all too well ... and his agenda is more terrifying than anyone could have imagined. |
