Is it 3.0.2 (553210206)? The number in the brackets is significant. If so then you can't upgrade that particular 3.0.2 to 3.0.3 as 3.0.2 (553210206) was a special factory only firmware that cames on new Kindles after the release of the public 3.0.3 so it will refuse to apply.

If it is 3.0.2 (529960105) then you can apply 3.0.3 manually if you wish to. Amazon still have the files on their download site. Its just not linked. List of K3 firmware files here for direct download from Amazon.

That figures... it is 3.0.2 (553210206). So there was never any way for that firmware to be upgraded to 3.03? I want to wait a while before going to 3.1 to see how the hack install/uninstall situation pans out, but I would have liked to get it up to 3.03 in the meantime...

Nope. Amazon CS claimed that 3.0.2 (553210206) had the same fixes as 3.0.3 but they were misinformed as the browser didn't have the 3.0.3 fixes. You're going to have to go to 3.1 I'm afraid.

FWIW, my K3 (purchased about two weeks ago at Best Buy) came with 3.0.2...I didn't notice the build...and I was able to log in via the various gmail urls that had the reports of text box problems without issue.

I upgraded to 3.0.3 last week for no particular reason, and the update went smoothly, though I can't recall noticing any effect what so ever on my user experience.

IOW, Sigwolf, you might just want to stay on 3.0.2 if you're not having problems, but otherwise, try to install the 3.0.3...the worst that will happen is it won't install, right?

I think it was only the mobile Gmail pages that had the issue and it wasn't all of them. I'm not 100% clear as the bug never affected me.

If you managed to upgrade from 3.0.2 then it can't have been 3.0.2 (553210206) as the 3.0.3 firmware update checks for a number between 515460094 and 536720111 for it to apply. The 3.0.3 update files never changed since they were originally released either.

If it is 3.0.2 (553210206) then it will just refuse to apply the 3.0.3 update and it will delete the file from the Kindle drive. It does the same thing if the file is for a different model as well. Thats all it will do so its safe.

hi all

i updated to 3.1 the other day... everything looks fine... i just made a couple of new ss and went to put them in my folder...

saw this inside...

Update_515460094-558700031.bin

anyone else see the same thing?... know what it is?... can i delete it?

Not sure why that file is lying around. Its a file from inside the 3.1 update and should have been deleted when the update finished. It is for 3.0 Kindles and takes them all the way to 3.1. What folder are you talking about? The exact name if you can.

You should be able to get rid of it as you're already on 3.1 and that file won't be valid any more anyway.

it was inside the linkss folder... 'update' is grayed out so i assume it didn't run because of the ss hack already installed... i guess i'll just delete it...

The SS/Fonts hack 'trap' official install files (it dates back to when we were trying to catch OTA update files ^^). You can safely delete it.

I think there is/was a thread on the naming convention used and that one could download older upgrades by changing the name in the amazon link.
