I am guessing said person will just take over the Amazon account. Be easier to give said relative your user ID and password. Then they can update contact email...etc You will probably have to provide a death certificate and proof of inheritance of some sort and amazon can probably put it in your name

amazon uk will not accept a direct debit on a UK bank account ( single or joint) a a valid payment method. same with Netflix, Spotify..... so we have separate amazon accounts . I put the kindle-ink reader , for my wife, onto my account to save having to do the de-drm shuffle every time just to share books... I can read the same books on my fire tablet I think that international companies cannot be bothered to add the UK only direct debit scheme to their payment methods. I can pay virginmedia for broadband, TV, phone from the joint account but there can only be one primary account email holder, who is allowed to amend the contract. So no real joint ownership there. And worse, if a transfer of responsibility is asked for to move the account to a surviving spouse, all email accounts are destroyed in that process. they offer a thing called Amazon family, here, but that a joined for content sharing link between two separate accounts, as I understand it |

update.
I fired off an email to amazon help. I focused on the prime subscription & how can we preserve the many Gbs of irreplaceable family photos uploaded to my prime account ( not mentioning that my google drive also has a copy ! ) I also added that I've been told that Amazon allow this in the USA. will keep you all posted if they respond. & I searched amazon help for joint account. 9 hits, none useful. |

We have way more than that uploaded. When I found that Amazon prime and Google were both offering unlimited photos and videos storage, with not too many caveats, I uploaded the entire collection doing one year per day on a fast connection.
I do still have local copies but Google does nice stuff like auto albuming, and offering up here's a bunch of embarrassing images from this day, previous years, on a regular basis. So google probably now have the cat and my budgies profiled 99 different ways for targeted adverts, but that's their problem Last edited by stumped; 06-11-2017 at 02:05 PM. |

When one of my friends died, he had given me access to his account at Amazon (no family). Amazon didn't have to, but they transferred his ebooks to my account. This was before I knew how to remove DRM. You can put a transfer of digital rights into your will- my brother has that. Technically nobody has to accept that since DRM can't be transferred but surely if you have a husband and wife or linked account, it indicated joint and not individual ownership. InUS, at least.

while I wait to see IF amazon respond I have been working up a word document with a list of essential online stuff, what will be lost if closed, and all the codes etc necessary to keep accounts alive so e.g. for amazon that includes the email I log in with and the password for that email account, as well as the amazon password
plan is to stash a copy with our wills and with my (family) executors I am less fussed about the DRM'd books & videos than about the ~70GB & growing collection of "unlimited" photos & videos in the prime account cloud. copies of the bought books are anyway already in calibre, so for them it's more about the convenience of direct kindle device access it is all just precautionary. The standing joke here is that my wife should begin to worry only when I offer to show her how the lawn mower works Last edited by stumped; 06-12-2017 at 01:10 AM. |

amazon reply
Hello, I understand your concern regarding joint Amazon accounts for your digital content access. I've checked and see that this service is available in Amazon.com for US customers, but unfortunately this option is unavailable in Amazon.co.uk. Further, to your question about paying the amount for subscriptions from joint account, I'm sorry to inform you that there's no such options available. followed by useless waffle Thanks for sending us your suggestion about providing a joint account for Digital content access. Customer feedback like yours helps us continue to improve our products and provide better service to our customers. I’ve passed your suggestion to our Amazon Drive team for consideration as we make further improvements. Should you require any further information or assistance, please feel free to contact us and we're glad to help you. |
