Don't know anything about Veracrypt, but I have to wonder if its any 'better' than NTFS Encryption.

I have just started building the index for my Books library on a backup drive - its a compressed and encrypted NTFS Black Caviar drive in a USB3.0 dock - I'll let y'all know when its done.

Took about 2¼ hours.

From memory that's not significantly different to the time taken to index the same library on an uncompressed unencrypted internal SATA3 Caviar Black drive. And that's been my experience with the Windows and X1 Content indexers, NTFS compression and encryption make no significant difference to index build or search times.

I believe the main issue they were having was the 4gb filesystem limit. Once the database got bigger than that, weird stuff happened.

Problem (?) with indexing:
I started the indexing in fast mode (win10), but after a view hours the process got slower and slower. After one night the remaining time increased to 31 DAYs.
After some testing I found the reason: My library is stored on a "Veracrypt" Volume, and this is formated with FAT32 by default. When the file full-text-search.db reached the size limit of 4 GB, my pc just tried to write more data, but failed without an error message.

I use VeraCrypt portable and it says that VeraCrypt volumes can be reformatted as NTFS after creation, if that option was not selected at first. Could that be a workaround? Copy the data on the volume somewhere else, reformat the volume as NTFS and move it bacK?

Version 6 has been released, so there is no reason for anyone to be using the beta.

See this thread for early adopter issues ==>> Issues with Version 6.

@dunhill - I moved your 6.1 issue to its own thread in Library Management
