Joe Gores, RIP
The Los Angeles Times is reporting that Joe Gores died Monday.
Like Dashiell Hammett, he was a private detective before he became a mystery writer. I suppose he was most famous for his book Hammett in which he imagined Dashiell Hammett to solve a case, and most recently Spade & Archer, a prequel to The Maltese Falcon. I am currently reading a collection of Hammett short stories called Lost Stories. Gores wrote the introduction to it. http://www.latimes.com/news/obituari...,2574319.story |

The New York Times also issued an obit here:
