How's your ultrasonic hearing?
A Gizmodo post about teens using ultrasonic ringtones on their cell phones led me to a link for a page where you can listen to the tones. The 12 tones range from 8kHz to 22.4kHz.
My hearing topped out at a lowly 14.1kHz. If you'd like to try it, be sure not to have your computer speaker volume too high because the sounds are piercing (and much better than cell phone speakers). Oh, and I don't have any critters but if you do, you may want them out of the room when you try this. Ultrasonic Ringtones |

Ha. Apparently, I'm hearing things only teenagers hear...
I can hear 18.8kHz and I'm 27. Quote:

15.8 Khz... does this mean, that I have to look elsewhere for an explanation for me saying "what!" all the time?

I can just barely hear the 16.7kHz. 15.8kHz is quite clear. I'm 23.
Heh, I remember when I was a teenager I would hear this obnoxious tone coming from the ancient TV set I had in my room. My parents thought I was nuts. Last edited by Dylrob; 07-12-2009 at 06:46 PM. |

Interesting... I can hear the lows and the highs. I miss the middle tones completely. Now I'll have to try again with my hearing aids on!

But like Laz, I keep saying What? all the time. Profound concentration, I guess. |

17.7kHz are clear, 18.8kHz barely noticable, everything between that and 22.4Khz could be imagination, imagination because I do not notice anything at all at 22.4kHz.
But who needs ears to read(books) 23. Last edited by arit; 07-12-2009 at 06:44 PM. |

I'd be fun, if you all also posted your age. Just to check whether MR-folks defy their age.

I can hear 15.8, not the next two, can sort of hear 18.8 and 19.9, can't hear the last two.
And I now have a really vile headache. |

I'm pretty sure my speakers are crap - because I actually heard something with 21.1kHz... (I do have very good hearing (maybe wearing ear protectors when fireworking and not going into disco is a good idea after all?) - but I do not believe 21kHz
