Question Change screen saver timeout - K2i v.2.5

Hi,
I want to change the screen saver timeout from 600sec to 1,800sec.
Since no hack tool available for K2i v.2.5, I tried USBnetwork to access to powerd.conf file.
However, when I tried to save back, it says this file is system file.
Can anyone suggest how I can modify this file step by step?

PS: I use WinSCP to access the file with user:root / no password

Much of the Kindle's file system is mounted read-only (/mnt/us is not), so you need to remount as writable to make any changes to files.

Question re - screensaver timeout

Hi Diapdealer,
I knew that thread. already installed.
however, the thread doesn't have the hack for screensaver timeout.
I checked by Google but only found hack for k2i v.2.3 only.
I really want to know step-by-step command to modify it as I'm almost none for Linux...
thanks

Talking re - screensaver timeout

Finally after I went through search to find the way to make the file read-write - with help of telnet and WinSCP, I can change the parameter and now my Kindle works perfect!

Help with changing Kindle2 screensaver time-out value

Hi Supakdee,

Just wondering if you could explain how you got the value changed using telnet and WinSCP. I don't know what and how to use them. Thanks.

first mount the filesystem as RW (readwrite) by telnet:
mntroot rw

Use WinSCP to access the file and change the parameter

Once you're done, you should put the filesystem back to RO (readonly):
mntroot ro

You can also try to follow this link for some more detail "https://www.mobileread.com/forums/showpost.php?p=1181285&postcount=8"

Thanks for the reply supakdee. Looked at the detailed linked but it looks like a lot of work and too complicated. Can't I just plug the kindle into a pc via usb and edit the parameters that way? Or maybe there is a hack for it already I don't know about? I'm using a Kindle2i, firmware 2.5.8. Thanks!
