Burning a $500 bill as a way of saying "isn't my lighter cool" -- would seem obscene to me as well.

It's simply cost-effective marketing for a small company making a fairly specialised product where one selling point is the strength of the blades.

While destroying some new hardware toy doesn't make you rush out and buy the blender, I bet a helluva lot more people are aware they actually exist before they started this series.
