So much for December availability of the apps. The website now says January.

According to Sony's Facebook page for the Sony Reader Store, Apple's review process is reason for the delay. Okay, fine, how about the Android app!!!
Sony Reader Store, "For those of you who have been patiently waiting for our mobile apps to be available, we wanted you to know that we are still waiting for our Reader iPhone app to come out of Apple's review process, which is taking longer than we had originally expected. We apologize for any inconvenience and will let you know as soon as we hear back from them. Until then, we want to wish you a Happy Holiday!" That same page now includes this about the Android app... Sony Reader Store, "Due to unforseen circumstances, our mobile app Reader for Android will not be available until after the first of the year. We apologize for any inconvenience." I suspect they want to release the Android and iOS4 versions at the same time. As far as Apple dragging its corporate feet, that is so well known that Sony should have taken that factor into consideration. Regardless, Sony has shown they cannot create good web pages or good software for Windows or MacOS, so I'm not expecting anything to get excited about as far as the Android and iOS4 apps go.

Well, it's almost February.... I noticed the Sony website now says "Reader for iPhone coming soon" with no date prediction.

Doesn't look good for the iphone app...
http://ebookstore.sony.com/rme/?sf1023337=1 "Unfortunately, with little notice, Apple changed the way it enforces its rules and this will prevent the current version of the Reader™ for iPhone® from being available in the app store. We opened a dialog with Apple to see if we can come up with an equitable resolution but reached an impasse at this time. We’re exploring other avenues to bring the Reader experience to Apple mobile devices. We know that many of you are eagerly awaiting the application and we appreciate your continued patience." I could care less about purchasing within the Sony app, I just want the ability to read my purchased (from Sony) ebooks on an iOS app when my 950 isn't around.

I've never understood why none of the states or US Gov't have challenged the way Apple does business. It is not right that a hardware company can tell you what apps you can load onto the hardware you purchased. We seriously need to change the laws to protect the consumers from this kind od business model. Can you imagine the uproar if HP or Dell told you which programs you could run on their PCs? The consumers would tell them where to put it!
Hopefully after Steve departs Apple will become a kinder and gentler company again the way they were between his dictatorial regimes. |

@trevgriff. You can read your Sony purchased books using Bluefire Reader on your iPad or iPhone.

But if you have your iOS jailbroken, Bluefire can crash your iDevice on exit. And if you use any of the eBookstores linked in Bluefire and when you switch to Safari, you again can crash. So for a lot of people, Bluefire does not work properly.
