I definitely updated something(s) but I am not sure what or how many.

Perhaps one day when we have an exhaustive list of everything ever posted as an update, we can make sure they are all fixed.

I got confused along the way trying to figure out if posting even made sense.

So, I should basically 'update' the kite install bin file? - I believe I should be using

update_kite_k3gb_install.bin

however if someone wants to shout at me that's wrong, right now would be the best time to do so!

Ok I went ahead and converted and tried to install the updated bin file instead, both the -3.2.1 and non-3.2.1 versions failed to install. -3.2.1 version gave me error U007; but the normal one gave me U004. Not sure what to try now :/

re-applying the original jailbreak also gives U004

That vaguely sounds like it's trying to be using a jailbreak vector all to itself, which is, err, probably a terrible idea.

Maybe I should try using the version which self installs via usbnet or something?

All I'm trying to do is a small wall display which will show a webpage or something!

Can you use KUAL instead of Kite?
KUAL runs on everything except the K1.

Hey guys. Quick question.

I have a UK Kindle 3 (B008) on firmware 3.4.2.

I've just jailbroken with the latest binary and installed the latest python version from the op's first post, which work fine. However on trying to install the screensaver file Update_ss_0.47.N_k2_dx_k3_install.bin, on starting the update it says it can't update and reboots!

Any ideas? :/

There was a problem with version number processing on the K3 IIRC.

having issues with password john the ripper doesnt work as the password has a wierd format

Getting the root password for SSH ive tried the above solutions (kindle password calculator and mario )
I enjoy playing arround with it my end goal i suppose is to have SSH server accessable over the wifi connection when the device is running in normal mode
