Post Dickens, Charles: Speeches - Literary and Social. v1. 12 Apr 2010

A fascinating collection of Charles Dickens' speeches, on both literary and social themes. Dickens, like the celebraties of today, was a "hot ticket" on the after-dinner speaking circuit, and his presence was a guarantee to pull in the crowds.

This book contains more than 50 of Dickens' speeches, given between 1841 and his death in 1870, at events ranging from a dinner organised by the "Gardeners' Benevolant Institution" to the "Metropolitan Sanitary Association" to an international boat race between Oxford and Harvard Universities (which Oxford won).

A fascinating book, giving a much more intimate look at "Dickens the man" than do his novels.

Enjoy!

Thank you very much!

Possibly, you have something about Conan Doyle work, biography and his relationship with Houdini?
