How long do you think Onyx Max Lumi can last?
I bought a Quaderno 13.3 inch, becuase I thought it could last longer than Max Lumi. But I am thinking to return it.
I can not afford to buy a new 13.3 inch eink tablet every year. Do you think Max Lumi can last 4-5 years of use. In the next 2 years I plan to use it about 10 hours per day since I am a phd student, and after that only in the evenings maximum 2-3 hours. Thanks in advance. |

i think one charge will last about 40 hours of work, the battery about 500 charge cycles, that's 20,000 hours. 10 * 365 = 3,650 20,000 / 3650 > 5 years. |

And how do you know it will last 40 hours of being used before needing to be charged? We don't not what apps will be used and how processor/screen intensive they will be. And then we also don't know how bright the lights will be when they are on or how often the lights will be on. There's a lot of unknowns and I don't think the batter will last past 5 years with that much intensive use. |

Then I assumed significantly more hours for 3 years and a battery of only moderate quality has app 500 charging cycles. |

Just personal experience, but I've found high battery health for very extensively used similar gadgets is around three years. If the battery health is low, but the device if still worth it to me I just replace it (which I've seen a few people have done fairly easily and cheaply for Boox products).

I used my Max2 as a monitor at least 10 hours a day, it lasted a year before battery went. But i had it plugged in all the time because I like to use the power hungry a2 mode, so it could no doubt last longer.
I don't know if it's possible (for me) to swap the battery's lead with that of another battery or if I would need to find a shop to do it for me, and could not find an original battery...and onyx wouldn't send one ![]() I suggest you get a spare battery if you can in advance. There are 3 solutions for the battery problem:
1. Send the device in for battery replacement 2. Replace the battery yourself 3. Don't replace the battery and get a good powerbank like Anker |

The problem is once a max battery dies, the level remains at 0% and the device is likely to repeatedly shut off if too much power is used, or not even turn on at all. Also, you are then at the mercy of the usb port, if it comes unplugged the power is in danger of being cut out. This might be fine if you're using it as a desktop monitor, but as a laptop it's harder to avoid...repeatedly cutting the power has sent previous Boox's into retirement.

If you are using the Boox device mostly with native apps (e.g. NeoReader, Notes) and mostly just for reading/annotating, then maybe you can get 3 to 5 years out of it? Which wouldn't be bad.
I'm assuming activity that refreshes the display frequently (like web browsing) or running more processor intensive apps will drain more power and thus decrease the likespan of the battery? |

I had the original Boox Note where the battery had degraded after about 2 years. I ordered a replacement battery from Aliexpress which worked fine (although I also upgraded to the Note 2 at the same time, as I didn't know how long it would take for the battery to arrive and if it's be able to swap out the old battery).
Changing the battery was not very difficult, but at least on the Note I needed to desolder three cables from the old battery and then solder the new one, since there's no plug connector. It wasn't very difficult, considering I managed to do it in spite of having very little experience with soldering - but you do need a soldering iron and the will to use it ![]() |

Check this article for Palm (you know, before iphone there was those PDAs)... the same applies for finding a suitable battery replacement, and some links to battery stores on Aliexpress. You might need to cut off and solder together the leads if your onyx boox uses a specific battery header. You can measure the sizes, or probably the numbers will be printed on the battery after you open up your onyx boox. Hope that helps you. Buying spare batteries when getting a new device is a bad idea. They have a shelf life too. Might be dead before you get to use the spare. |
