BackDoorLock
I have been sifting through all the JB threads regarding the new PW2 JB (very exciting - thanks devs!!!!!). I have FW 5.4.0 on my PW2 and since I do not want the screwed up 5.4.2 updated automatically, I was wondering if anyone has tested the BackDoorLock on the JB PW2?

I have on idea but I believe there has been a suggestion somewhere that creating a text file with the name of the(/an?) update will stop your Kindle from figuring out how to download the update, since it would have to overwrite the file.
It's supposed to be a general all-purpose Kindle X.X.X update blocker. |

1. So, if I create a folder with the title "update_kindle_5.4.2.bin" and place it in my device where I would place the usual bin files, the kindle will not download and install that update automatically?
2. If this works, could I have multiple folders with several iterations of updates - ie 5.4.2, 5.4.3, 5.4.4 - to protect against future updates? 3. Would this mess up JB update bins from being used? Ie: would I have to make sure airplane mode is on my wifi PW2, all the update folders from above removed, then the JB bins used, and then the folders put back on the device? 4. Would these folders survive a restart? Ie: there is no automatic clean up of them by the kindleOS. I plan on keeping my PW2 on airplane for most of the time, but since we have 2 devices sharing one account, there is a possibility that my wife may "accidentally" turn off airplane mode for some reason (ie wikipedia) not realizing that the device would update. The 5.4.2 update is truly a nightmare since I sideload all our books using calibre and the cloud "feature" of 5.4.2 will "amazonbrick" our devices. Thanks for thoughts. |

Thanks for the correction, I saw this glancingly and mostly forgot it, couldn't remember where I saw it (and was too lazy to look.)
I don't actually use this since my KT can always be downgraded. |
