Yep. I read an entire novel yesterday, probably about 6h reading time in total. Battery was at 80% at the end of that. That's entirely adequate for me.

But you do have to agree with the smaller battery needs more charging and that more charging will decrease the life faster than say a Voyage or PW3.
Also, because the KO2 cannot easily be opened, it cannot have the battery changed. Once the battery is done, the KO2 is done. |

Most mobile phones are charged daily and with modern advances in battery technology, last well over 2 years before degradation becomes an issue. If you charge your Oasis every 4-5 days, that increases to 8-10 years. I don't see it as a problem.

No, I don't have to agree. Jon. A lithium battery degrades as a result of two effects: an increase in the internal resistance of the cells with time, and the number of charge cycles. For a high-power device such as a laptop, the second of these effects dominates. For a low-power device such as an ereader, the first does. The overall number of charge cycles has only a small impact.

As such, the Oasis battery can handle a lot less. I'm not sure, but believe the Oasis battery to be a single cell battery. If we're lucky, it's a double cell battery. But if it was a single cell battery, it could mean if the cell goes bad, the device goes dark. (Or, in this case, white). On a tri- to 5 cell battery for a cellphone, if one cell goes bad, you still have 2 to 4 other cells functioning. And what does a 4000mAh mobile phone battery cost? $8US! You're not going to tell me that Amazon did a good job by saving money choosing a crappy tiny battery, if just making the handle a tiny bit wider (in the likes of an 8th of an inch, to host more battery) could have provided a 1000mAh battery upgrade, or quadrupled to 5x more of battery life, vs the stock ?200 something? mAh? The first one had a 250mAh.
1000mAh isn't too bad, but it feels like the Oasis is consuming a lot more battery than the Paperwhite, which has only 50% more battery. For reference, my Kindle Paperwhite lasts between 2x to 5x longer on a 1450mAh battery, than the Oasis on a 1000mAh battery. |

Amazon do an awful lot of customer research. Presumably that research told them that the average consumer favours light weight over long battery life. I find the battery life acceptable, personally. Although it is shorter than my Voyage, it's still adequate.

The Oasis weighs the same almost, as my Paperwhite. These devices always need to be combined with a screen protector, and screen protectors on these devices, are more like pouches or boxes than lids. Meaning, they will clamp down on the back of the device, to cover the screen. You could almost put the Oasis hardware without back, in a screen protector. No need for exotic backplate materials like they did on the Oasis, since no one will actually use them without protection. |

How about you tell Apple and Samsung that they have to put cheap looking plastic stuff on their phones, because nobody uses them without case anyway. |

I've used a cover that covers only the front of my iPad (an Apple "Smart Cover") for years. The back of the device, which is anodised aluminium, the same as the Oasis 2, is unmarked.

I have the cover that amazon launched but then stopped. I actually like it and glad I got one.

They're to thank for the whole 'non-removable batteries' technology. Haven't seen any technology that sucked so much. Is kind of like selling a car, with non-removable tires and wheels. Salesman saying: "I'm very sorry sir, but when the tires go bald, you'll have to buy a new car with us". |
