Whose Body is not out of copyright in the UK, so I expect that this edition will get pulled fairly shortly.

And now an omnibus of the 5th and 6th titles free at Kindle US...

Titles include:
  • Crime Czar
  • Lucky Man

Spoiler:
Quote:
The FIFTH and SIXTH funny, offbeat, and surprising legal thrillers in the Tubby Dubonnet series.

CORRUPTION, MURDER, AND A REALLY GREAT PO’BOY…

“Take one cup of Raymond Chandler, one cup of Tennessee Williams, add a quart of salty humor, and you will get... Dunbar’s crazy mixture of crime and offbeat comedy.” -The Baltimore Sun

A New Orleans lawyer who'd rather eat, drink, and swap stories than get caught in court, Tubby Dubonnet, cleaving faithfully to his guiding principles “Never screw a client and never lie to the judge,” manages, in his own laconic fashion, to right many of the wrongs that beset his clients. In these late-series books, he’s experiencing the pride and satisfaction of new grandparenthood. And he’s taken on some additional civic duties, agreeing to co-chair the reelection campaign of his good friend, Judge Hughes.

But in Tony Dunbar’s books, New Orleans is The Big Sleazy squared. No one is safe, especially from their elected officials. Even if they are an elected official.

Half the fun of a Tubby Dubonnet book is watching his sly creator fit together a plethora of fascinating yet seemingly unrelated jigsaw pieces to form a picture you never saw coming. And the other half is hanging out with Tubby and his crew of eccentrics, sleazeballs, goofballs, and enticing, confusing babes in the Big Easy-to-Love. The food descriptions are no slouch either.

These are funny-hard-boiled mysteries with as many laughs as chills, because no matter how dire things get, Dunbar never loses his sense of humor:

"I think he's going to shoot us once we're out in the Gulf," Tubby whispered to the girl.
“His aura is green,” she agreed.

“Dunbar has an excellent ear for dialogue … His stylish take on Big Easy lowlife is reminiscent of the best of Donald Westlake and Elmore Leonard.” -Booklist

WHO WILL LIKE THESE: Fans of Tremé, softshell crab po’ boys, Domilise’s, the Upperline Restaurant…wait, let’s start over, it's not all about the food—ok, fans of legal mysteries, (particularly Parnell Hall’s Steve Winslow series and anything by Lia Matera), comic mysteries, Elmore Leonard, funny lawyer movies like My Cousin Vinny, TV shows like Ally McBeal and Night Court; and everyone’s favorite New Orleans yarn, Confederacy of Dunces.

Vol. 5: CRIME CZAR

It's a city of sin. And murder is only one of them.

Tubby Dubonnet can't forget the last words that escaped an old friend's lips, and he can't get out of the way of a political campaign that's turning rough. Obsessed with the idea that a shadowy crime boss may be pulling the strings that have cost good people their lives, Tubby is entering into a test of courage with the most violent men in New Orleans. And if that weren't dangerous enough, he’s just picked up the worst ally he could ever find: a beautiful prostitute gunning for revenge.

Vol. 6: LUCKY MAN

When the D.A. himself sets you up, you know you're going down…
So what if Judge Hughes shared a few special moments with Sultana Patel—why is this a matter of public interest? “The stench from that courthouse fills the city,” roars D.A. Marcus Dementhe. “Those hypocritical men and women who wear the robes are filthy with deception.” And Dementhe has a zany plan to snare them.

Hughes, happily, has had the good sense to hire epicurean lawyer Tubby Dubonnet, whose laconic air is belied by his zeal to protect his clients. And what a web they’re ensnared in!

“raffish charm and humor"-- The New York Times

Amazon most surely does. It relies on the copyright holder to complain and get the listed books removed. It does no pre-publication checks on books posted through KDP, except that the person posting it must check a box to tell Amazon that they have the right to publish it.

Numerous unauthorised editions of copyrighted books have appeared for sale at Amazon UK (and other Amazon stores) posted using KDP by the clueless or the crooked. Mostly, to be fair, the former.

The authorised UK edition of Whose Body? is here, currently £1.99.

I agree in general, but since some authors have had problems when, eg, two different collections contained the same story, I think Amazon now have some automated checks in place.

The reviews of this edition say it's annotated, maybe telling readers in text who invented the telephone messes with the text comparison.

For corroboration of the general point, I see three editions of "The Secret Adversary" in the UK Kindle store (PD in USA only)

Perhaps I should have said that they have no automatic copyright checks in place.

And apologies for the off-topic digression. Back to bargains!

The Battered Badge is the latest (last week) in Robert Goldsborough's continuation of Rex Stout's Nero Wolfe/Archie Goodwin series. It has dropped to $2.99 at Kindle and Kobo US.

Kindle US: https://www.amazon.com/Battered-Badg...dp/B076V81XHJ/
Kobo US: https://www.kobo.com/us/en/ebook/the-battered-badge

Spoiler:
Quote:
A shake-up in the NYPD homicide squad following a high-profile murder is bad for business for private investigator Nero Wolfe.

When wealthy and popular crusader and reformer Lester Pierce is gunned down in front of his Park Avenue residence, the public outcry forces the NYPD to restructure its homicide department. As the deceased was highly critical of Inspector Lionel Cramer, the longtime head of homicide is temporarily relieved of his badge. But it seems Cramer was not just a scapegoat: He was seen dining in Little Italy with mob kingpin Ralph Mars.

All of which amounts to little more than conversational fodder for PI Nero Wolfe and his assistant Archie Goodwin. But if Cramer’s provisional replacement, Capt. George Rowcliff, becomes permanent, Wolfe’s future dealings with the force will be much compromised. Loath to depart from his routine, Wolfe makes the unusual decision to take on a case without an actual client.

His investigation quickly points toward Pierce’s organization, Good Government Group, where high-minded idealism is often trampled under the competing ambitions of the staff—several of whom would clearly have benefited from Pierce’s demise. Despite the burgeoning list of suspects, Wolfe hasn’t ruled out the involvement of the underworld and its connection to Cramer. But in order to untangle an abundance of motives and end the inspector’s forced furlough, Wolfe may have to venture out of his comfort zone—and the premises of his brownstone.

Continuing his beloved series—which also includes Archie Meets Nero Wolfe, Murder in the Ball Park, Archie in the Crosshairs, and Murder, Stage Left—Nero Award–winning author Robert Goldsborough “demonstrates an impressive ability to emulate Rex Stout’s narrative voice” (Publishers Weekly, starred review).

Right now, several other titles in Goldsborough's continuation series have also dropped to $2.99 at Kindle US. (I've been sick, so not online, and this was several hours ago, so they probably won't be at $2.99 much longer...) The link in this previous post still works: https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sh....php?p=3666116

Death on the High C's is a non-series title by Robert Barnard. It has dropped to £1.65 at Kindle UK.

Spoiler:
Quote:
Opera singers are often described as being larger than life, and certainly this is true of Gaylene Ffrench. Her appetites—for men, for food, for attention—are gargantuan, and her ability to irritate is similarly outsized. So when someone electrocutes the bombastic Australian contralto, few tears are shed at the Northern Opera company (though it’s a pity her understudy’s so lousy).

In fact, most of the company members are dancing a jig, and it falls on Superintendent Nichols to determine which of them might have helped Gaylene along to her just reward. The black tenor tired of being the butt of Gaylene’s bigotry? The soprano weary of jealous whispers in her ears? Gaylene’s many bedroom conquests, all anxious to avoid a repeat performance? With so many potential suspects, Nichols has his hands full, but Barnard and his readers have a deliciously malicious good time.

‘The wryest wit and most scathing satire’ Chicago Sun-Times

‘One of the deftest stylist in the field . . . goes about it with a quietly malicious sense of humor’ New York Times Book Review
