Conversion format for Kindle

I am planning to buy a Kindle soon. All my books are in PDF or ePub format. What is the best format to convert everything to so they will be available on the Kindle.

Convert the ePub to MOBI. The Kindle can read DRM-free PDF, but it does not reflow the text, so you may be better off converting them to MOBI also.

PDFs are a mixed bag. They are a horrid format to use as the source for conversion to any other format. Sometimes they are better viewed as it. I would suggest loading them onto the Kindle as is and viewing them. If readable as is then do so. Only convert to MOBI if they prove to be unreadable or hard to read.

Ignore the PDF. Just don't bother. It's not worth the hassle.

ePub can convert to Mobipocket if you have any DRM stripped. But given that you already have ePub, buying a Kindle that doesn't use ePub is a lot more work then just buying a Sony Reader PRS-T1 later this year.

I have had very little problem converting fiction pdf's to epub or mobi. Textbooks etc. are a bit harder and generally I leave them as is and read on computer. Can be done but you lose the nice indexes.

I bought a kindle for my mother because she wanted the text to speech thing, and it works fine for reading. Easy to convert books to mobi. Not great in the organizational department though. Makes me crazy at times when I am 'fixing it' for her.
