PlayBook needs its own Thread
RIM's Blackberry PlayBook is an eReader/tablet that is functionally and cost-wise comparable to the Kobo Vox, Kindle Fire, etc... It should be more prominently displayed in it's own thread along with other similar 7-in, $200 devices.
Its popularity and market share, I believe, justifies this more prominent position and it would facilitate comparisons among similar devices competing in the same markets. It's present position, buried among "other" devices appears to me to be organizationally incorrect and also does not do justice to this slick and rapidly-improving device. Originally designed to sell for double the current going price it is a great piece of kit for the money. Let's put it up where we can clearly see what people think of it. |

The Moderation Team is of the opinion that, whatever its merits as a tablet, the BlackBerry PlayBook has not yet generated enough interest among MobileRead members to warrant its own sub-forum here. It may be quite popular outside of MobileRead, and may be indeed be a great or even superior alternative to some of the other tablets discussed here on a daily basis, but we feel that giving the PlayBook its own sub-forum at the present time considering its sparse support here at MobileRead would be premature. In the future, if you could generate enough interest among our members, we would gladly reconsider.
To that end, you might even try lurking in such threads as "Which one should I buy?" and jumping in when appropriate, and getting friends who own the device to join up. Such efforts might increase the PlayBook's visibility on our site. |

Thank you for your considered response.
Seems like we have a bit of a chicken and egg situation here; PB can't get a forum until it's popular and can't get popular until it has a forum! I have no particular agenda to promote the product and simply feel that, for the reasons already given, it deserves more prominent treatment. (And I have no intention of "lurking" to promote it, thanks anyway, it really doesn't need my help!) The PB's exclusion from its rightful position among comparable products says more about potential bias on here than it does about any lack of popularity of the product. Hopefully, as time goes by your position on this will be revisited and eventually this gap will be corrected. |

I will say the PlayBook does look like an interesting device, and even the current U.S. President waged a battle with White House security when he first came into office to be allowed to keep his personal BlackBerry, so the company is certainly not without its loyal fans.

There is a wiki page on the PlayBook as of a few days ago. It has not generated that much interest yet. As always the chicken was created first.

Well that is what the forum "Which one should I buy" is for, a direct head-to-head forum for all devices.

US Mobileread
Perhaps this forum should be renamed "US MobileRead" to reflect it's limited scope and geographic bias.

If and when a large enough group comes to this board and starts to discuss the Playbook in the More E-book readers forum then a sub-forum for this device will be created. This is the process that caused most of the other sub-forums to be created. Instead of posting obvious troll bait in the Feedback forum you might consider posting your experience with the Playbook and other info you have gathered in the More E-books Forum linked above. At this point maybe a Prefix of Playbook in the main More E-book readers forum will allow you to gain a foothold. Last edited by DoctorOhh; 05-27-2012 at 02:59 AM. |

Where's that poll that had more Canadian responses than American, with Aussies, Brits, and other assorted Europeans right behind? My search-fu sucks on MR.
