Jim Butcher



Jim Butcher is an American fantasy fiction writer. He is famous for writing Dresden Files, a contemporary fantasy book series. He has also authored Codex Alera series.

The Aeronaut's Windlass was released in September 2015.

What I will tell you is that Butcher appeared on Friday night at the Tribeca store in New York City for an open, honest – and incredibly enjoyable – back-and-forth with the fans in attendance.

Promoting Brief Cases, a new hardcover collection of Dresden short stories that includes eleven previously-published stories and a new novella that was released on June 5, Butcher covered a wide range of topics that you can heck out for yourselves below:

In today's "State of The Sanderson 2018" post Brandon Sanderson announced Death (Without Pizza).

Is this part of Peace Talks or a short story in between? Cannot really see how it is in between books when we haven't seen the war that happened. Or have we and I missed it?

I believe that this a peek forward from after Peace Talks. Jim is trying to melt our brains!

It takes places after Peace Talks, as that is referenced a couple of times. It sounds like a warzone to say the least.

There will be casualties that Harry knows personally. Jim is really teasing us with this short story.

Anyway, great to read at least something again from his hand.

Since replying to the spoiler, mine shall be too:

Tens of thousands hurt, thousands more dead. Roundabout maybe 10% death rate, 30-50,000 hurt, 4000 dead. Only reason Harry could be very upset over everybody if the casualties are mostly human innocent bystanders. Likely in Chicago. There is not so many magical folk, because only a small portion would have gotten hurt. Only Winter has that kind of forces, and it would be bad for the planet earth to have pulled them from the outer wall - maybe not until the end of the series. Winter can always win in a hurry if need is there. So I doubt it was a simple run over by Winter and a consequent run over by Outsiders. Not yet.

Soooo.

Innocent bystanders, not the participants in a war.

Who against who? White council vs. Winter very unlikely, not with Harry in both. Harrys family all intact plus the Carpenters, except maybe Ebenzar. He needs to die so Harry can inherit the Blackstaff. Also maybe not yet, probably closer to the end.

Lots of more people need to die in the next view books as it has been hinted that Harry will be close to alone.

Getting gloomier and gloomier.

Novels:

Jim is finally settled in his new home, and he’s since been industriously churning out new chapters of Peace Talks that torture Harry in fun and interesting ways, much to the betas’ joy and dismay. We’re still quite a ways from having a release date, but we’ll announce any updates in the news blog.

Why’s Peace Talks Taking So Long?
(An explanation, so you can stop emailing complaints to the feedback box, which doesn’t reach Jim, and mainly just frustrates the folks running this site.) Personal problems/life events spanning the past several years are what gummed up the works.

Got divorced, with all the fallout that comes from that.
His dog died, who was “the brains of the operation” as Jim tells it.
Got engaged, then remarried.
Moved to another state to live with his fiancee, now wife.
Lived in an apartment with no private writing space for years longer than intended because the contractor building his new house blew the deadline by a couple years at least.

That last bit made it especially hard for him to get traction on Peace Talks. Thankfully, the house is finally finished and Jim is back at work, under the guidance of his new canine buddy Bru and his wife’s four majestic cats.

As of December 27th, 2018, the current draft of the novel is up to chapter 39. Progress!
