I'm late to the party, but I haven't seen mentioned yet the major source of the bought books in my Calibre library: what I think of as the Kobopalooza or the Kobocalypse. Namely, that stretch when Kobo offered multi-use 90% discount coupons. Moreover, at that time, Ebates.com (now Rakuten) gave an additional 5% off the list price, for a total 95% discount. At a nickel on the dollar, I bought pretty much whatever I could think of.

I think it must have been before I was even aware that Kobo existed? My first Kobo purchases are from 2012.

Or maybe it was before I was aware that MR or those coupons existed.

Around 200, mostly from Standard Ebooks and Project Gutenberg. I keep adding classics faster than I can read them. The Standard Ebooks editions are so nicely formatted that I keep grabbing more "just in case."

50... Including duplicates. Yeah, I just use Calibre for some file conversions. What's living there is forgotten in some way, or other.

Setting a hypothetical stage.
I have a Nook with a number of classic titles on it, like Mack Bolan, The Destroyer, etc that I have acquired over the years. I find myself not using the device and not going back to those stories, so I lend my Nook to a young person for them to use, with no fixed date of return. I don't get a new device, I don't re-download those books onto my phone/PC. The device is still registered to me, tho i no longer have it in my possession.
Is this acceptable, or is there some clause I should be aware of?

To the Original Question, just a few hundred, but split across multiple Libraries I quick switch between as needed. Main, Old school, Comics/Graphic Novels and er.. "Spicey Ramen"

Amazon definitely allows it...as long as the device is registered to you, you are allowed to loan it to another person. Of course, it had better be a person that you trust implicitly, as your credit card is tied to your account, so whoever you loan it to is able to buy more books using your credit card.

Here's a link to a post speaking of this: https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sh...&postcount=373

Yes! Once I realized how common it was for fanfiction authors to delete their work, I started compulsively downloading anything I was even remotely interested in reading...and that's how I ended up with 7k+ "books" in my Calibre library.

In my paper library, I have 853 unread books, though I've had a net of knocking 23 off of that list this year. I can't say these are all "my" books as they represent the marital collection of 1,328 physical books.

In my Calibre library i have 715 unread books.
