Access library external network

Hi there !

When my calibre app is running on my local network, I can access at my library on internet with the address IP provide on calibre settings. The same on my Android phone.

I would like to access at my content library on another computer or phone on another network ( the wifi network on a friend for example) :
Should my calibre server be running at anytime ? I guess it's obvious but I ask anyway

if Yes, is there a way to let the server ON while I'm not at home and that I turn off my computer?

Thank you very much .
Have a nice day everyone.

Maud.

The Computer IS THE SERVER.
Computer off, Server OFF.

In addition, unless your neighbor is next door (within range of your WiFi AND you have given them a guest access), You will have to open a router 'pinhole' for the server IP and port.

Sharing Copyrighted books to others is a big No No. And helping you accomplish that is a violation of MR rules.

I don’t really think the OP is asking anything about sharing copyright protected books but looking for a way to access her library from outside her home network.
Maude, no offence intended but it is clear you have little background regarding networking, servers etc (nothing wrong with that). What you want to do is very possible but not trivial, especially without more experience. As theducks noted, whatever computer or platform you are running your calibre server on must be up and running to provide the functions needed. This could mean keeping your computer on and awake or migrating to different platform to host the server. More complicated is providing access to this from outside your own network as this is difficult to do while keeping your network safe.

All doable but I suspect you would need a lot of help to do it properly (and not something you could expect to get from a forum. I, as an example, run Calibre on a raspberry pi (small standalone Linux computer) and remote access through the use of networking software virtual LAN (NordVpn meshnet). Works great but not trivial to set up without some solid background in various topics.

Hi !
Thank you for you both for your assistance.

that's right RazMichael, I do not want to share some books but only have access to my library while I.m not at home . on the weekends I am outside my country and I do not have my computer 😌

I understood that it will take more experience that have got to do that , so nevermind and thank you again to you.

Have a nice day !

Don’t forget that can download books from the library to various ebook applications on your phone or tablet (can’t recommend best Android as I’m on iPhone. This will depend on what type of copyright protection the books have but you may be able to locally download a bunch to read before you travel.
