Question Facebook for Android???

Can anyone explain what the deal is with Facebook for Android?

When I go to FB on my Vox, there's a message at the top of the screen that says "Get Facebook for Android and browse faster." When I click on this, it takes me to the FB App page in Google Play with another message at the top that says "Your device isn't compatible with this version". Seems a bit counterproductive...

Can anyone shed some light? Confused newbie is the dark here.

The perils of having a device that only barely qualifies for Google Play access...

If you're not completely blocked from downloading it, you might try installing it anyways. Odds are, it's just wanting a camera and/or a GPS or some other minor feature and might otherwise work fine.

Most Android apps are for smartphones with their tiny screens and you can only download them and install them on phones. The Vox has its own Facebook app that already presents a simplified screen for a 7" tablet.

Lightbulb Vox: No deal with Google

The way I understand it there are several places/libraries where you can get/buy Android software. The most well-known is the Android Market and it is owned by Google. Kobo Vox uses GetJar.com instead. Since Facebook's android software is linked to Google's app, and Vox doesn't have licencing, you get an error message. There are clever Vox users working on hacking access to Android Market but the setup is not easy.

Vox with the latest software uses google play no hacking needed for access to google apps, getjar.com is no more as default for apps on vox, though i havent tried going to website recently to see if it still works

I use the version of facebook on the goodereader app store (1.9.5) this works on the vox so not sure what facebook changed in 1.9.6 to make it incompatible

If your Vox is updated to the latest software version, you have access to the Google Store.
