Problems with RSS feeds conversion (URLpath not different in the print edition)
Hi everyone! I'm a newbie
I'm considering getting an ebook reader 'cause I have to read hundreds of news every day and I'd like to preserve my eyes Some newspapers are on pdf and some are not, so I'd like to use caliber to create ebooks from rss feds... Usually feeds have incomplete news; on the caliber guide is told how to do have the complete news from the bbc site. http://calibre-ebook.com/user_manual...n-of-bbc-co-uk The problem is that the "trick" is based on the fact that the URL of the print versions on the BBC site has the same filename and a different filepath. ARTICLE: http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/science/nature/7312016.stm (http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/science/nature/7312016.stm) PRINT VERSION: http://newsvote.bbc.co.uk/mpapps/pag...re/7312016.stm (http://newsvote.bbc.co.uk/mpapps/pag...bbc.co.uk/2/hi/science/nature/7312016.stm) ...BUT... generally the path is the same and the filename is different... ARTICLE: http://www.ilsole24ore.com/art/SoleO...lesView=Libero (http://www.ilsole24ore.com/art/SoleOnLine4/Economia%20e%20Lavoro/2010/01/disoccupazione-bce-aumento.shtml?uuid=b4381a96-0671-11df-95a1-a27b81b5948d&DocRulesView=Libero) PRINT VERSION: http://www.ilsole24ore.com/art/SoleO...ento_PRN.shtml (http://www.ilsole24ore.com/art/SoleOnLine4/Economia%20e%20Lavoro/2010/01/disoccupazione-bce-aumento_PRN.shtml) ARTICLE: http://www.economist.com/world/asia/...70708&fsrc=rss (http://www.economist.com/world/asia/displaystory.cfm?story_id=15270708&fsrc=rss) PRINT VERSION: http://www.economist.com/world/asia/...ry_id=15270708 (http://www.economist.com/world/asia/PrinterFriendly.cfm?story_id=15270708) Is there any solution? That's what the print_version method is for. you can use it to transform the normal URL to a the print version, provided there is a simple mapping. If not you can always parse the article page and extract the URL for the print version from that.
And you dont even have to use the print version at all, instead you can clean up the normal version. |

That's the problem, I think... I'm one of those who don't know so mutch about IT (I've "studied" on wiki even to understand the problem and to pose the questions on this topic).. Since the RSS feeds are - I suppose - a significant field, and a lot of important newspapers have incomplete feeds.. is there a guide ("for dummies") in wich I can learn how to define the differences between the URLs and (then) to tell calibre how to open the print ones (or at least to open the whole article and not just the title from the feed?) To eliminate pictures could be better but is not my first problem. The problem is that I've done ebooks with incomplete articles P.S. Thanx Last edited by DerOberdada; 01-21-2010 at 02:04 PM. |
