Agreed. I'm pretty sure that the OP had changed the settings in a book and then found that changing the defaults did not change that book.

Great, thanks! That fixed the problem. It is heavy-handed as you said, (titles become the same size as the text), but line spacing is now adjustable in the same range as for other books. I'll try to fix up the titles by changing some font sizes in the .css file with calibre's "tweak book".

@DNSB: I can't adjust the line spacing in your copy of the book, I tried removing the line-height terms from the .css file but then the double-spacing problem returns.

@EldRick: You are right, I had already changed the line spacing in the book.

I have tried the Font-size method as stated by Granny Luddite and it works on some books, and does change all the font sizes to 1em.

What works slightly better for me is to convert the epub to mobi and back again to epub. Most of the larger/smaller font-sizes are retained and the line hieght works although I have not reconverted enough books to say for sure that it will work in all cases.

The books I have done all worked fine before reconverting on the Sony readers and the calibre viewer and still do. But not on the Kobo mini.

I removed the line spacing and margin settings from the .css file manually and I can change the line spacing and margins using the sliders now. However the line spacing even at the minimum setting is still larger than I normally consider as readable.

The version I uploaded here would not respond to the slider use as it had fixed line spacing and margins. I prefer to have setting them in the stylesheet so I have consistency. I tried running the file through Calibre removing font, margin and line-height and it seems to work on my Glo but again with the minimum line spacing being too large for my tastes.

I've attached a version with line-height and margins removed, the stories in separate files and a few other mods. While some other programs would show the <p><br /></p> items as blank lines, in my experience, the Kobo renderer seems to disregard those lines which mucked up the wide spacing between the segments of the book.

Hmmm... now up to 15 minutes on the file.

Thanks Helen/speakingtohe, it's amazing how well that works. I was able to remove "font-size" and "line-height" from "Other CSS Properties" and was able to adjust both line height and font size, and the final epub displays much nicer on the Mini.

I did check the font box in "filter style information" in the last pass into epub. Don't know if that was needed. Also, I added all the Kobo/Mini specific changes on the mobi to epub pass and not on the original epub to mobi pass. Is that the best way to do the conversion?

Thank again. I'm off to play with some of the other files that had line spacing problems.

You are welcome.

I don't think checking the font box helps in a conversion to mobi or back to epub, as mobi doesn't AFAIK support embedded fonts or numerical font sizes. font-size: 0.77419em; is usually converted to font-size: small; then converted back to font-size: 0.75em; which the Kobo seems to understand.

It seems to be nonstandard font sizes that make the Mini choke anyway.

Oh well, not the most elegant solution, but it seems to work.

In the conversion options, under Look And Feel, select the "filter style information" tab. Check the "Fonts" box then in the "Other CSS Properties" add "font-size" (Other CSS Properties: font-size, line-height).

Checking the "Fonts" box will strip a lot of the font information from the epub (but not "font-size") and enable adjustment of fonts on the Kobo for some non-DRM epubs.

Calibre rev. 0.9.4
Kobo firmware rev. 2.1.5(r43939 10/12/12)
