Content server will only start in debug mode

Something has recently happened and the content server will now not start, There is simply the message:

calibre, version 3.35.0
ERROR: Failed to start Content server: Could not start the Content server. Error:

Client socket not connected in 1 second(s)

I'm using Windows 10, latest updateI have reinstalled calibre, switched off the firewall and antivirus, deleted the metadata files - but always get the same message. Then, as a last resort I started in debug mode and the server works fine in that mode, but not when started normally. Can anyone help?

Debug mode uses a different executable than normal mode, most likely some program on your computer is interfering with the normal mode executable but not the debug executable. The typical culprit is an antivirus, but you say that you have already turned it off. Try rebooting in safe mode and see if it works there.

Started in safe mode, and yes, the server started. Resumed normal Windows and now it works ok. Have restarted the PC before without fixing the problem. Anyway thanks for the pointer - perhaps some silent update needed a restart? I guess I'll never know what the problem was, but glad to be up and running again.
