Dealing with Kindle ebooks in calibre

Renaming the renderer file was necessary to prevent old versions of Kindle for PC from downloading books in the KFX format. As modern versions only download KFX and this can't be prevented, there's no need to rename the renderer file.

Yes, you just import the AZW file. It should be KFX in calibre - you can convert it to another format, like epub.

Well, frankly, I don't know for sure. But I guess not. Try and find out.

I can't convert AWZ4 file - I've installed the latest DeDRM and KindleUpack and still can't get it to work. I don't think it is a Kindle Fire book....

@Gatesway - It is a print replica book, so should transfer to a pdf from azw4 - if you can get rid of the DRM.
It might be one that can't be removed as it looks like a textbook?

If you have a renderer-test file in the Kindle for PC application folder then it is left over from when a previous version of the program was installed and it is unused now. Changing or deleting it will have no effect on anything.

I have one other thought. Maybe Amazon change the DRM yet again and it's no longer compatible with DeDRM.

I have one other thought. Maybe Amazon change the DRM yet again and it's no longer compatible with DeDRM.

One other thing to try is deleting all traces of that eBook and download it again.

Tried that suggestion and it still errored out.

I purchased the book on Amazon, and then downloaded it to my Mac from my content library in the Amazon website. I did link my Kindle in the process.
