On second thoughts, maybe it is possible. If you have DeDRM installed in Calibre, perhaps you can then add the DRM-free copy from the Calibre library to the ADE library. (I haven't tried it yet, so I'm not certain.)

I figured that if my ADE account got banned I'd just make a temporary one. But having it be my normal one means that any ACSM file that gets processed gets processed with my normal ADE account, and has the same keys as all my other ADE books. In case I ever need to re-download them.
It seemed like a good risk to me. |

I use DEACSM all the time now and it is configurable to emulate all the ADE versions. |

Thank you everyone for your help! I imported my ADE authorisation from WINE into the DeACSM plugin, and now I'm able to download my book. The only "downside" of this method is that since I have DeDRM configured already, Calibre seems to automatically discard the original encrypted e-book and only add the decrypted one to the library. Since the encrypted book can only be opened in Calibre and ADE, I don't think it really matters, though.
The only other possible solution I could find was in this GitHub gist, which indicates that ADE 2.0 lacks TLS 1.2 support by default: https://gist.github.com/bmaupin/65ef...b897f2224dfa38 I'm not going to bother making a Windows 7 VM just for ADE though, since DeACSM already works. Hopefully if anyone else has this problem, this thread might be a helpful resource on how to address it. |

There is not an "original" encrypted ebook. DeACSM is downloading the ebook from the information in the .acsm file and the epub downloaded is run through the decryption procedure as part of being downloaded before it is placed in the calibre library. I suppose you could disable the DeDRM plugin and download an encrypted epub but I'm not sure why you would want to do that.

Have you deauthorised your original ADE installation? If not, it might be worth doing so. IIRC, you're only allowed a very limited number of authorisations (two? three?), and you don't want to lose any.
(Part of the reason that I went with an anonymous authorisation for my DeACSM installation is that I've lost one of my "real" account authorisations as a result of laptop death. AFAIK, it's not possible to remotely deauthorise apps, but the ADE installation on my old laptop is now inaccessible.) |

Yes, and the encrypted one is what you'd get with ADE before using DeDRM to decrypt it, but it's not very useful since it can only be read with Calibre and ADE.

I'm not sure if you're allowed a certain number of authorised devices simultaneously, or if you're limited to a certain number of authorisations total. I've read elsewhere that if you de- and re-authorise six times, your account gets locked until you ask Adobe to give you more activations. If that's true, then I wasted some by resetting my ADE authorisation a few times during the course of troubleshooting. |

I wasn't aware that they also limit the number of reauthorisations. That's a pain. |

What are you on about? If DeDRM is working, then you get an eBook that has no DRM and can be read and any software that will display ePub.

I'm pleased to report that I did hear back from Kobo support, and they gave me a $10 credit to compensate me for all the trouble I had with this, so I'm quite impressed with their customer service. Thanks, Kobo!
