Fool's Paradise is the first in Mike Lupica's continuation of Robert B. Parker's Jesse Stone series, after several continuation books by Michael Brandman and Reed Farrell Coleman. I had an ARC of this a few year ago and quite liked it. Fool's Paradise has dropped to $1.99 at Kindle and Kobo US right now.

Kindle US: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B082H2YQVL
Kobo US: https://www.kobo.com/us/en/ebook/rob...ool-s-paradise

Spoiler:
Quote:
When an unknown man is found murdered in Paradise, Jesse Stone will have his hands full finding out who he was--and what he was seeking.

When a body is discovered at the lake in Paradise, Police Chief Jesse Stone is surprised to find he recognizes the murder victim--the man had been at the same AA meeting as Jesse the evening before. But otherwise, Jesse has no clue as to the man's identity. He isn't a local, nor does he have ID on him, nor does any neighboring state have a reported missing person matching his description. Their single lead is from a taxi company that recalls dropping off the mysterious stranger outside the gate at the mansion of one of the wealthiest families in town. . . .

Meanwhile, after Jesse survives a hail of gunfire on his home, he wonders if it could be related to the murder. When both Molly Crane and Suitcase Simpson also become targets, it's clear someone has an ax to grind against the entire Paradise PD.

Oh yeah, and if you want to read my review, the URL for my blog is in my signature...

The Mysterious Mr. Quin is a collection of short stories featuring one of Agatha Christie's lesser known "detectives": Harley Quin. It's on sale right now in the US for $1.99.

Kindle US: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B007XJ70AO
Kobo US: https://www.kobo.com/us/en/ebook/the-mysterious-mr-quin

Spoiler:
Quote:
The inimitable Agatha Christie intrigues, surprises, and delights with The Mysterious Mr. Quin—a riveting collection of short stories centered around the enigmatic Harley Quin, whose unpredictable comings and goings are usually a good indication that something is about to happen…and rarely for the best.

It had been a typical New Year's Eve party. But as midnight approaches, Mr. Satterthwaite—a keen observer of human nature—senses that the real drama of the evening is yet to unfold. And so it proves when a mysterious stranger knocks on the door. Who is this Mr. Quin?

Mr. Satterthwaite's new friend is an enigma. He seems to appear and disappear almost like a trick of the light. In fact, the only consistent thing about him is that his presence is always an omen—sometimes good, but sometimes deadly. . . .

Joffe's Free Friday book is The Apothecary’s Daughter, previously published as The Angel Gateway. It's the first in the Ray Flowers series by Jane Adams. Note there are a couple of other Free Friday books these week as well, but both seem more like romances, so that's where I've put them. And as in the past, there's a pretty good chance this will be free through the weekend, but if you really want it, grab it now.

Kindle US: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08Q8LD9TJ
Kindle UK: https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B08Q8LD9TJ

Spoiler:
Quote:
TWO SHATTERED LIVES.

CENTURIES APART.

BOUND BY A SECRET THAT COULD KILL THEM BOTH.

One February afternoon, Detective Ray Flowers’ life is blown apart by a petrol bomb attack. No one can tell him who did it. Or why.

Anchorless and alone, he moves to his aunt’s country cottage. What he needs is perspective.

BUT THE PAST ISN’T DONE WITH HIM YET.

Instead, he is tormented by visions of Kitty Hallam, a troubled young woman accused of witchcraft. Back in 1643.

Is she a figment of Flowers’ imagination or something more?

Whatever the truth, Flowers can’t help but be drawn into Kitty’s world, sensing their stories are intertwined somehow.

BUT WILL THEIR UNLIKELY CONNECTION PROVE TO BE KITTY’S UNDOING?

With this hauntingly evocative tale of two lost souls, Jane Adams has crafted a police procedural like no other. Her unique blend of intrigue, romance and history will captivate fans of Kate Mosse, Barbara Erskine, Alex North and Stephen King.

The Reykjavik Noir Trilogy is an omnibus of the first three books in Lilja Sigurdardóttir's Reykjavik Noir books. These are: Snare, Trap and Cage. It's $0.99 right now at Kindle US - a nice price for three books, whether you need them all or not.

Kindle US: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B09MSLJDF3

Note the oddnesses in the blurb are from the website, and not from me...probably due to some of the different letters in the Icelandic alphabet...

Spoiler:
Quote:
A young, single mother is lured into cocaine smuggling to keep custody of her son, as she eludes customs officers and the police, and tries to escape the clutches of the kingpins in Lilja Sigurðardóttir's critically acclaimed, award-winning, international bestselling Reykjavík Noir Trilogy. A nerve-shredding, emotive Icelandic series by the co-writer of the Netflix hit Katla.

'Tough, uncompromising and unsettling' Val McDermid

‘Stylish, taut and compelling' Daily Express

‘Tense and pacey ... an intriguing mix of white-collar and white-powder' Guardian

Snare (Book One)
Set in a Reykjavík still covered in the dust of the Eyjafjallajökull volcanic eruption, and with a dark, fast-paced and chilling plot and intriguing characters, Snare sees young mother Sonja become involved in cocaine-smuggling in and out of Iceland, under the suspicious eye of a customs officer ... An outstandingly original and sexy Nordic crime thriller, and a nail-biting game of cat and mouse!

Trap (Book Two)
When Sonja's son is kidnapped by her ruthless ex-husband, she's thrust back into the world of cocaine smuggling, but this time she's got a plan of her own, with an unexpected ally, and a complicated relationship on her conscience ... High-stakes jeopardy presides in this dark and original, breathtakingly fast-paced thriller...

Cage (Book Three)
A deadly threat to Sonja and her family sees her return to Iceland, where she needs to settle scores with longstanding adversaries if she wants to stay alive, while a group of businessmen tries to draw Agla into an ingenious fraud. Drugs, smuggling, big money and political intrigue rally with love, passion and murder in the masterful conclusion to the explosive Reykjavík Noir Trilogy.

Don't Point That Thing at Me, apa Mortdecai’s Endgame, is the first in Kyril Bonfiglioli's short 4-book Charlie Mortdecai series. Per SYKM, it was the winner of the 1973 New Blood Dagger Award. It's $1.99 right now at Kindle US...

Kindle US: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07MW9PMJS

Spoiler:
Quote:
This witty crime thriller series debut follows the exploits of an unscrupulous art dealer with a stolen Goya—“this cult classic . . . is a true original” (Booklist, starred review).

In Don't Point that Thing at Me, British author and art dealer Kyril Bonifiglioli introduced the Honorable Charlie Mortdecai: degenerate aristocrat, amoral art dealer, seasoned epicurean, unwilling assassin, and general knave-about-Piccadilly. Since its publication in the 1970s, this dark humored crime thriller has earned its place as a beloved cult classic.

With his thuggish manservant Jock, Mortdecai endures all manner of nastiness involving secret police, angry foreign governments, stolen paintings, and dead clients, all just to make a dishonest living—while decked out in the most stylish garb and drinking the most bizarre alcoholic cocktails. Don’t miss the brilliant mixture of comedy, crime, and suspense.

The Dark Side of the Island by Jack Higgins is $1.99 at Amazon and B&N US

The guys at Paperback Warrior had a very positive review of this one, which is what made me look at the book in the first place.

Quote:
A former WWII intelligence agent searches for redemption in this thriller by the New York Times–bestselling author of The Midnight Bell.

It’s been nearly twenty years since Hugh Lomax set foot on the Greek island of Kyros. During World War II, British Intelligence sent him there on a mission to take out a high-tech German radar station. Aided by the local resistance, he succeeded—but was also captured and spent the rest of the war imprisoned.

Now, he’s returned. But he is far from welcome.

When he reunites with someone he thought an old friend, the man threatens to kill him. The local authorities make it clear that he should leave and never come back. Because although he thought he had helped save Kyros, Lomax soon learns that his former comrades believe he turned traitor in captivity—a betrayal that cost many lives.

Unwilling to live with the betrayal, Lomax must delve into the violent past and dig into the unfamiliar present to find the man who stained his name with the blood of his friends. But this secret enemy is still watching his every move, waiting to silence him forever...

Abandon by Blake Crouch is $2.99 at Amazon.

Quote:
A century-old mystery—and a desperate battle to survive—unfold in this standalone thriller from the New York Times bestselling author of Dark Matter and Recursion.

On Christmas Day in 1893, every man, woman, and child in a remote mining town disappeared, belongings forsaken, meals left to freeze in vacant cabins, and not a single bone found.

Now, journalist Abigail Foster and her historian father have set out to explore the long-abandoned town and learn what happened. With them are two backcountry guides—along with a psychic and a paranormal photographer who are there to investigate rumors that the town is haunted.

But Abigail and her companions are about to learn that the town’s ghosts are the least of their worries. Twenty miles from civilization, with a blizzard bearing down, they realize they are not alone.

The ordeal that follows will test this small team past the breaking point as they battle the elements and human foes alike—and discover that the town’s secrets still have the power to kill.

Part journey into old-West history, part nail-biting survival thriller, Abandon is a bloody, darkly surprising tale as only Blake Crouch could deliver.

Today's Big Deal at Kindle UK is fifteen crime, thrillers and mystery books on sale for £0.99 each. The list is pretty much the usual publishers/authors that usually show up when Kindle UK does these sales - I'm not going to type out fifteen titles (!!!) so you'll have to take a look for yourself...

Murder 101 is the twenty-second Peter Decker/Rina Lazarus title by Faye Kellerman. It's $1.99 right now in the US.

Kindle US: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00FVW5GBK
Kobo US: https://www.kobo.com/us/en/ebook/murder-101-3

Spoiler:
Quote:
New York Times bestselling author Faye Kellerman's beloved Decker and Lazarus embark on a new life in upstate New York—and find themselves entangled in deception, intrigue, and murder in an elite, picturesque college town.

As a detective lieutenant with the LAPD, Peter Decker witnessed enough ugliness and chaos for a lifetime. Now he and his spirited wife, Rina Lazarus, are ready to enjoy the quiet beauty of upstate New York, where they can be closer to their four adult children, grandchildren, and their foster son, Gabe.

But working for the Greenbury Police Department isn't as fulfilling as Decker hoped. While Rina has adapted beautifully to their new surroundings, Decker is underwhelmed and frustrated by his new partner, Tyler McAdams, a former Harvard student and young buck with a bad attitude. Just when he thinks he's made a mistake, Decker is called to an actual crime—a possible break-in at the local cemetery.

The call seems like a false alarm until it's discovered that a mausoleum's stunning Tiffany panels have been replaced by forgeries. Soon the case escalates into murder: a co-ed at an exclusive consortium of liberal-arts colleges is brutally slaughtered. Poking into the hallowed halls of academia to find a killer, Decker and McAdams are drawn deep into a web of nasty secrets, cold-case crimes, international intrigue, and ruthless people who kill for sport.

Suddenly Decker's job is anything but boring, and the case might be too much to handle for a sleepy town that hasn't seen a murder for nearly a quarter century. Decker will need to use every bit of his keen mind, his thirty years of experience as a homicide cop, and much-appreciated help from family and old friends to stop a callous killer and uncover a cabal so bizarre that it defies logic.

The Inquisitor’s Key, apa The Bones of Avignon, is the seventh in the Body Farm series by Jefferson Bass. It's $1.99 right now in the US.

Kindle US: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0068M2K5M
Kobo US: https://www.kobo.com/us/en/ebook/the-inquisitor-s-key

Spoiler:
Quote:
The most riveting and ambitious novel to date in Jefferson Bass’ New York Times bestselling Body Farm mystery series, The Inquisitor’s Key takes forensic investigator Dr. Bill Brockton to Avignon, France, and embroils him in a deadly religious mystery that could shake the Vatican itself to its very foundations. Another sterling crime novel in the vein of Patricia Cornwell, Kathy Reichs, and Karin Slaughter, as well as TV’s C.S.I., The Inquisitor’s Key adds a touch of James Rollins and The Da Vinci Code to the typically acclaimed Jefferson Bass mix of suspense, surprise, and finely detailed forensic investigation.

I just recently became aware of the Will Raven/Sarah Fisher historical series by author duo Ambrose Parry, so haven't read any of the books, although they look quite interesting.

There is a novella in the series available for free right now, The Spendthrift and the Swallow. Info differs as to whether this is "book 3.5" or "book 5", but either way it's free, so I'm going to try it out, even though it may not be the best entry point to the series. And the other books (other than the most recent one) do seem to go on sale reasonably often, which is nice to know when trying a new series...
