In the UK school children get a book token (voucher/certificate) which lets them get a free World Book Day book or £1 off a real book. The books are specially written short books by well known children's book authors. I have no idea why the UK can't have it on the same day as the rest of the world!

The justification for not doing so seems to be: http://www.worldbookday.com/about_world_book_day.asp "World Book Day 2009 in the UK and Ireland will take place on Thursday 5th March. Please note that this date applies to the UK and Ireland only. The initiative is so well established in schools here that we want to make sure that the Day happens in term time to really make the most of this opportunity to celebrate books and reading." |

I was in Lisbon on Easter day and we had one of those cakes. It's a yeast dough - rather like a sweet bun or brioche - shaped like a nest with a hard-boiled egg in it. It was nice, but not as good as the pasteis com nata, which were excellent. And they have little cakes shaped like castles too. Portugal seems to have a lot of possibilities if you like cake.

It is because of the spaces at the beginning of the lines. The forum removes them.

Our one wasn't really nest shaped - it looked like: http://ervedosa.com.sapo.pt/gastrono...ens/folar2.jpg And the hard-boiled egg was at the bottom of the sponge (we didn't know it was there until we felt the shell cracking as we cut into it). |
