Avatars
I've been on a lot of forums over the years, but I just wanted to note that I think that the members of the MobileRead forums have the most interesting ones around.
Sometimes I get as much enjoyment from their creativity of design as I do from the actual posts themselves. |

There are some pretty cool avatars floating around.
I changed to this one, maybe a week or so ago, because Iw as getting tired of my original avatar. I plan to change it again for 2012, though, and will wait until as close to the New Year as possible. |

I like some of the cute comic default avatars that are here, but I put my spindle photo on, to me it is soothing and peaceful just like reading.

By comparison, mine is pretty boring. But it was a gift so I'll keep it a while longer.

I guess I could update mine, to reflect a better haircut or beard trim?

I use the free GIMP2: http://www.gimp.org/
Since the thread is about Avatars, why would you want to go from a gif to a jpg? Going the other way around would make more since. If you want I can walk you through the steps to change it. Basically you just "save as" jpg. Luck; Ken |

Almost any image editing program should be able to do this.
Gimp can be a huge and confusing program for such a simple task. If you are handy with the command line, then Image Magick's 'convert' tool will do that and a whole lot more. I'm pretty sure you can find a Windows version. |
