Does Kindle still phone home with KOReader installed?
To use wifi in KOReader I need to connect to a network via the Kindle software (network selection is not implemented in KOReader for Kindle). This means the Kindle software can now connect to the internet as well.
Does this mean my Kindle will still phone home to Amazon as it did before? I guess so? It probably doesn't know my exact reading habits since page turns and such are within KOReader now but it probably still reports what books I have on the Kindle, when the Kindle was turned on and off, charged, etc. Is this correct? |

Yes, it will unless you block at the router.
It needs to if you use KU or similar or the the authors don't get paid. It may also update, however it may depend on what sort of jailbreaks and patches you have done. Use USB transfer if concerned. |

The OP is asking if a Kindle phones home when using WiFi while running KOReader. The OP already knows a Kindle phones home normally.

Thank you!
That was what I worry about indeed. I hoped KOReader would replace the Kindle software so no tracking could be sent but I understand that's not the purpose of KOReader. Keeping my Kindle offline will be the only workaround then. About the authors not getting paid. If I buy an ebook from my local bookshop and read it on my Kindle the author did get paid I hope? Maybe there is some agreement where certain authors get paid per page I read or something? |

Authors get paid for purchased books. They won't get paid if you borrow a book from Kindle Unlimited and read it on anything other than a Kindle device or app, including KOReader.

That technical tidbit is mostly irrelevant to the debate, though, but had to be pointed out . (In the same vein, we don't support KF8, KFX, and barely support M7 to begin with anyway ^^). |

But to answer the actual question: yes. It may not be able to *act* on whatever backgrounding tasks it usually does immediately, but it'll quite likely catch up on exit.
