Need literary fiction recommendations

Anyone read any good literary fiction? I'm on the hunt for something new. The beginning of Freedom by Jonathan Franzen didn't really capture me, so looking for something fresh and new.

Try Skippy Dies from Paul Murray. I am writing an essay about it right now

By the way, I greatly disaggree with the term "literary fiction". Everything written with an artistic idea in mind is literary.

Hrmm, the best book I read recently that falls under that category is "The Secret History" by Donna Tartt. Great book. It's about a group of "hyper-intelligent" friends who decide to murder their friend.

Cutting for stone, loved it. Can't believe it's the first book written by the author.

Is that a joke? What's Skippy Dies about?

Not sure what you mean by Literary Fiction. Are you just referring to (new) mainstream or do you mean classics or ??

I loved Homer and Langley by Doctorow, but not sure if you consider that literary fiction or not. Also Last Night on Twisted River by John Irving.

And one of the best things I've read - The Road by Cormac McCarthy - some might call that SF though.

Why would I joke? Here is a review: http://www.nytimes.com/2010/09/05/bo...ew/Kois-t.html

The book was also in the Booker this year.

Wow. Excellent reviews on Amazon.

Thanks for that. He has written a couple of others prior to this though -- those may have been non-fiction though.
