Should I wait for a kindle with GlowLight?
Hey gang,
I have a kindle Fire but I'm finding that I'm only using the reader app and I'm finding that I really don't need the LCD except for reading at night. I'm considering selling it and getting the nook reader with the light since it's lighter, works outdoors, and has a battery that lasts much longer. Do you think Amazon will release something similar soon? Should I wait for Amazon to catch up? |

I am fairly certain Amazon will release a Kindle similar to the GlowLight. I did sell my Kindle Fire and bought the GlowLight last week. I've used it for 2.5 days already and am very happy with it. It is so much lighter than my Kindle Touch with the lighted case.

I've been waiting for Amazon to put Flex lighting on an eInk Kindle model. I wont be heartbroken if they don't, but I would sell someone else's kidney for a Kindle with Flex lighting.

Sold your Fire? I can't imagine. I love my Fire! No way would I trade it for a Nook Glow! I use my Fire to read in bed in the dark, or I can use one of my book lights for my K3 or my Sony. It's not an all or nothing, for me! I have 2 e-ink readers and a Fire, when Amazon makes a lighted e-ink, I might have that one too. But sell my Fire? Never!

Anyway, thanks for all of the feedback. I really hope Amazon releases something soon. If not, I may find myself over at my B&N and picking up the nook with GlowLight. |

I use several Bible Android Apps on my Kindle Fire so an eInk Glow Light won't be the be all and end all for me. However, when Amazon introduces it, I'd buy it and give away my Kindle Keyboard.
I used to use Osnova Direct Jump Bibles on my Kindle Keyboard and they do not operate properly on the Kindle Fire. If they work properly on the Kindle Glow Light, that would be a plus for me. Frankly, its hard to see the small key letters in reduced light settings in Church on the Kindle Keyboard. A Kindle Glow Light would fill that need especially if it has a Virtual Keyboard. |

Heck, I think I've done well if I keep a device for a year!

It all depends on what you want I suppose. I had the Kindle keyboard for 1 year, then I switched to the new Kindle (non-touch) because I liked the smaller form factor and I rarely used the actual keyboard on my old Kindle. I might be tempted to get a glowlight version for low-light conditions, but I find I have enough light to read with my bedside lamp at night so it might not entice me. I can't see myself replacing the Kindle non-touch anytime soon (unless it breaks of course)

Right on
Its the same with me. There are three reasons I buy a Kindle: reading eBooks, playing with Android Apps AND the toy value of new devices.
I always buy the latest and greatest since I enjoy new toys and have been doing so since 1925. |

I'd be tempted by a glowlight version of Kindle, but it won't replace my Fire (used for magazines like The New Yorker, videos, and playing Angry Birds more than reading). And I doubt I'd get rid of my Kindle 3G. For one thing, having the older Kindle Keyboard allows me to do things like grab the Dragon Ship eARC while waiting for the Ferry this weekend, with no WiFi connection. Couldn't have done that with a Touch or the Fire either.
