The thread was about the VIP Membership, not Kobo Plus. VIP is a one-off annual fee, not a monthly subscription.

The price is $10AUD

I decided not to renew. If a discount on VIP comes up at old price I will.

Yes, in the UK it's now £12 or 8,000 points. Luckily my renewal date is Feb 27, 2027, and I rather expect to have more than 8,000 points by then.

People might want to check that VIP membership isn't set to auto-renew when the current year is up...

Honestly i rather drop that on a book and bail. It may be more worth if you buy lots of discounted books though.

Some of my books attract the 10% VIP discount, but probably not £120 each year. But I do buy a lot of price-matched books where I get the points for the full price, even after the refund. So long as my purchases each year fund the VIP membership, I'll just keep it going.

I've benefited hugely from the VIP subscription at Kobo.
Points wise that is, as the choice of a free ebook was a very crap selection this year, worse than last year which was bad enough.

I wouldn't be average though, as I buy a lot of ebooks. And it isn't just the great number of free ebooks I've gotten, but the lower prices due to VIP discount, than a Kindle version on many occasions.

I'm also very selective about the price I am prepared to pay for an ebook, so many are me just waiting long enough to grab on a great discount. That is helped by me running a program every day to check on prices of ebooks on my wishlist. That alone has saved me heaps of money. So couple that with the VIP advantage and I am way in front.

Alas though, it has resulted in me having a huge reading backlog.

I get more value from Kobo Plus than I do from Kobo VIP, so I think I'll let my VIP expire. Only a few of the authors I read are eligible for the discount, and most of those are in Kobo Plus anyway.

Edit - somehow I landed on the points accumulation chart, and it looks like I've only redeemed points once for a single book, so that's definitely not worth keeping at $20 per year. If it was still $10, I'd have enough points to pay for the membership and would maintain it, but not at the new price.
