Interesting talk. I think there were a number of logical errors but I did like the overall suggestion that other creative industries (other than fashion) be opened up.
Positive karma for finding it. Gwen |

Well ya it isn't perfect but it does add another viewpoint to the overall topic. The TED talks are great.

Very interesting talk. Her comments brought back memories.. I worked for years in the fashion industry at a fabric plant.. We printed designs on fabrics mostly for New York design houses. I still remember how we had some designs that we would change a logo (trademark) but could use the same screens because things like stripes, dots, circles etc were alike and different folks had ripped off the same patterns and it was legal!! Too bad NAFTA did away with the ability of US textile plants being able to survive economically.
Thanks for sharing! I loved her chart showing the gross sales of the "unprotected" vs "protected" industries!! Of course part of the comparision is somewhat flawed as everyone has to buy food and some clothing to survive, but books, music, movies and such isn't the same kind of item. Positive karma for the different viewpoint! |

I want to make a reply that talks about people in general but after some arguments on this site I know some would take it personally so I'll try this.
Sometimes stepping away from a purely publishing standpoint gives perspective to the whole thing. And I'm glad you liked seeing another view on the greater debate. |

Interesting...
Intellectual property issues aren't related just to books, video, and audio; the permeate every aspect of our technological civilization, from research, to design, to engineering, to manufacturing, and even logistics and retailing. Anything that highlights the issues (it's *not* anywhere close to black and white) of how and when knowledge can or should be protected is a good thing. If nothing else, there might be somebody with an open mind out there. |
