Anyone has DXG can help me run dmesg? I suspect my 2nd hand DXG has no 3G module

Hi all,

I need DXG users' help on this. From setteing, I can see Network Capability: 3G. But when I "Turn on wifi", it end up time out. I suspect the one I got has no 3G module in it. I tried to run dmesg and cannot see any message that looks like the 3G module being initiated. Can any DXG user tell me what will be the message in dmesg if there is 3G module present?

Also, if I really missed the 3G module, can I purchase a spare DTP-600W to re-enable the 3G?

Many thanks!

What firmware version are you now running on that device?
The reason I ask is because you may be missing wan firmware/software rather than the hardware.

= = = =

The 3G modem appears as a ppp device on usb (it is, you 'talk' to it with AT commands just like any other external modem).
You should see ppp/pppd initialization messages, if not in dmesg, in the system messages log.

Thanks knc1! So the string that I should look for is "ppp"? But I really can't find "ppp" in dmesg. And if grep by "usb", I got the follow. So am I really missed the 3G module from my seller????

If you don't have ppp in dmesg, it highly suggests SIM module is not there.

What do you see when you do "modprobe -l" ?

Just open it. It's easy.

The required drivers are loaded, but that "usb failure" is not good.

You will have to open it up and look.
The 3G modem card may be missing or just dead.

You should be able to find a teardown or two indexed in the master index for the DXG.

thanks knc1! just did it. the 3g module was not there at all.

but I saw the SIM is still here. If I buy a anyDATA DTP-600W and insert back to it, will I get the 3G back? (that part change will not affect right?)

Thanks a lot!

Thanks a lot! Too bad I am not in US. I am in Hong Kong....

Oh I want to ask one more thing as well! Can I tell if I my e-ink panel really a DXG screen? After I dissembled my "DXG", not only the 3G module was gone, my battery is also written in Chinese. Not sure if my screen really a high contract DXG screen or DX normal screen only.

Thanks a lot!
