Unhappy only one file doesn't convert from txt -> epub

I was trying to convert three text files to epub,
but only two of them were successfully converted.

I tried changing the name of the file and it didn't work.
Copying and pasting the content to a newly created text document did not work as well.

I thought the problem was in the program itself (calibre), so I tried converting other random text files and they all WORKED.
Only the text file in question does not work.

Is it because of the size of the text file? (it's 0.4MB)
When I try converting it, it only goes up to 1% and then stops. 0_o

Does it quit with an error message? If it doesn't quit with an error you should just wait, there is probably something in the text file that makes Calibre slow down, as text conversion uses a lot of regular expressions.

If there is an error we can't really help you without the detailed conversion log. Click on 'Jobs' on the bottom right, select your job, then click details.

nope. it does not quit with an error message
I tried waiting, but it doesn't go further then 1 percent...
Text files with similar sizes are quickly converted, but only this file doesn't seem to work.

You just need to wait. The progress bar moves in big jumps, it could sit at 1% for hours, it's still working.

You could open a bug with your file at bugs.calibre-ebook.com. Can't guarantee there will be a fix since it's not really a bug, but it can get looked at, and whatever pattern is causing the problem could potentially be optimized.

I *do* have an error--a Conversion Error. Trying to convert my .txt file of notes for Chapter 6 in one of my classes, and all the other files worked, yet this one throws a Conversion Error with these details (a long list!!! can anyone help??):

UPDATE: In this text file, I had originally done a bit of "ascii art" if you will, because I was creating a text based illustration of a type of circuit component (an operational amplifier if you're curious). There were no special characters (all were normally available on the keyboard without using ALT + codes)--everything just had a lot of spaces in between to make it all line up.

When I removed those illustrations however, the conversion worked fine. Any clue why it doesn't like abnormal character arrangements??

The auto detection is detecting the file as being Markdown formatted. You need to specify that formatting type (most likely plain) in the conversion settings for this file.

@antiphlamine, set the paragraph type to plain and set the formatting type to plain then convert. Most likely it's getting hung up on one of the auto detection or heuristic routines. If plain doesn't come out looking properly try single.

Try surrounding your ASCII Art with <pre> tag pair.

I'm curious, how would you suggest doing that in a text file?

Good point
but maybe Calibre is Smart enough (Stupid enough to do it) if it ran into HTML inside a text file..

But the alternative is to Paste the ASCII art with the Pre tags after the fact using Tweak and a editor.

Put a place holder ASCII ART HERE in the file before conversion.

IIRC the markdown processor handles HTML tags in txt files correctly.
