Henty, G. A: March to Magdala. v1. 24 Oct 2014
George Alfred Henty (8 December 1832 – 16 November 1902), was a prolific English novelist and a special correspondent. He is best known for his historical adventure stories that were popular in the late 19th century. His works include The Dragon & The Raven (1886), For The Temple (1888), Under Drake's Flag (1883) and In Freedom's Cause (1885).
As Special Correspondent for the Standard newspaper, Mr. Henty chronicles the March from Annesley Bay to Magdala. This 400 mile ordeal was a logistical nightmare during which the British emerged victorious over the terrain, the human enemy being a minor difficulty. With rich description of the country through which this March was made, this account is a brilliant, in depth description of the determination and endurance of the British Army and also of some of its foibles and weaknesses.
