That's odd. The contrast ratio for the B/W version is the same as for the colour version. I don't think that can be right. It ought to be higher. I wonder if their 'greyscale' display is just their colour display being driven as greyscale.

(I'd have expected the B&W version to be 454ppi and better than 1:20 contrast ratio.)

That is correct, they were showing black and white content on color display.

It's 454 PPI that of "subpixel" density, mate ; )

Damn, that actually looks promising. It's no OLED display and the animations seem a little laggy, but man it would be great for textbooks and PDF documents.

How soon this catches on will depend on price. If Amazon and other ereader manufacturers can sell <$300 ClearInk devices, it will become mainstream. Otherwise it will remain a niche technology.

One quick check reveals a comparable tft-ips-lcd panel (say ~10',' 1920px wide) being sold by producers at around 50$ to 100$, and the ES103TC1 from E-Ink - the 10.3'' 1404x1872 one - at 350$. So, I could place an ignorant, non-committal bet at 150$ to 200$.

Think if they sell it at a cheaper price with a firmware that let it display just grayscale..
A software upgrade that transform your reader in a colour one

I suppose it's possible that they are starting off with just one production line, and so all the displays have the colour filter applied.

Interesting... from the way I'm reading it, it is the first year for the award, and yet it is one of the most prestige ous awards for the industry. Irregardless (see the vent and rant thread) of Clearink winning, congratulations to the award for becoming so pretigious so quickly.

It is not a new award, just a different name with changed voting.

English is not my primary language and i wasn't meant to say anybody did anything.
I'm just reflecting on the interesting fact that software is eating the world.
An hw company can have a single product line and enable different level of service, based on software.
You have already Tesla that via software gave more battery autonomy to people escaping from an hurricane.
